In all probability the barrel and action of this rifle are made by one of the guild members in Liege, Belgium. H&H will not admit this fact publicly.

To the best of my knowledge, their actions,as well as other best gun makers elsewhere, are sourced from Prechtl in Germany. Those actions are made with the closest conformity to Paul Mauser's original drawings.hks2056 wrote:In all probability the barrel and action of this rifle are made by one of the guild members in Liege, Belgium. I am okay with everything as long as the English Walnut Stock and the Fitted Case are made in the UK.

Good move on getting a brochure, Nitro! Let us know if you are successful.
Your description of the Mauser action is making be love and want the rifle more.
They did send me an e mail a while ago informing me that a hard copy of the quote along with a copy of the brochure has been sent to me through Royal Mail.

Re: The .375 Commemorative "1912-2012 Centenary"
Dear Vikram
A]The original Mauser 98 is patented. The patent is held by Mauser of Germany. This is their web site:- http://www.mauser.com/Home.home.0.html?&L=1
B]If a purist wants original Mauser then the only choice is to buy from them only.
C] I understand that currently all custom made rifles by big old names of Britain as well of USA on M98 variations are being sourced from http://www.dumoulin-herstal.com/en/mecanisme.htm.
D] H&H is sourcing the white barrelled action with calibrated open sights from them and finishing the weapon locally in UK. It is no better than Apple making all their i-phones in Foxconn factories in China. At least the design of I-phone is original by Apple though done in China. In the instant rifle there is nothing except the brand name to justify the price tag of pound sterling 35000/-. I think the ruling politicians will find the price as no more than peanuts, if the amount of money involved in the scams is anything to go by.

You may find it surprising to know that Mauser Waffen does not produce the M98 and they get those M98 actions from Prechtl! The barrels are produced in house by Sauer who are part of the same group.Sometimes, even the whole M98 rifles are built by Prechtl for Mauser Waffen. The MO3 rifles are produced in-house by MW.
The rest about gun manufacturing is nothing new. It has been there for ages. H&H and others used to have stuff made in Birmingham. Now EU. They,H&H, used to concede(Now, they do not mention it) on their website that the barrelled action was sourced from Reimer Johansen. But, Johansen source their actions from Prechtl!
I would not doubt if H&H also source their action from D-H.

Re: The .375 Commemorative "1912-2012 Centenary"
hks2056: Patents on the M98 Mauser action expired long ago. Anybody can make the action. The "Mauser" name, however, is trademarked and now owned by the same conglomerate owning Sauer. They alone can legally stamp any of their guns "Mauser", even when far removed from Paul Mauser's 1898 design.

Re: The .375 Commemorative "1912-2012 Centenary"
American Rfileman had an article on this .375 H and H - Enjoy
http://www.americanrifleman.org/article ... 75-magnum/
The .375 H&H Magnum was introduced by English gunmakers Holland & Holland in 1912 as the .375 Belted Rimless Nitro Express. One of the first cartridges to feature a belt, the sharp taper of the case resulted in very smooth feeding from the magazine, but also created a shoulder unsuitable for headspacing. Therefore, the then-new cartridge was designed with a raised band, or belt, at the rear of the case on which the load could be headspaced.
The .375 H&H Mag.’s development was a direct result of the popularity being gained in Africa and India by the German Mauser 9.3x62 mm developed by Otto Bock in Germany in 1905. That much less expensive, yet highly effective, cartridge/rifle combination was becoming more popular than—and outselling—the expensive English doubles widely used at that time for hunting dangerous game. In response, the English gunmakers began experimenting with various cartridge designs in order to come up with an alternative to the 9.3x62 mm, and the .375 H&H Mag. was Holland’s contribution.

Well Guys,
Mine is celebrating it's Seventy Seventh Birthday. Though not elaborately embellished the way the commemorative is, but I am certainly not complaining.
Cheers to H&H

As I understand even 77 years ago these rifled action were procured by H&H from Germany or Belgium. I you ever happen to remove the stock then please check for German manufacture markings on the bolt action, receiver base and barrel. It will be interesting to know where it was actually made.I have seen same calibre rifle by H&H with barrel and action made by Duomlin of Belgium. It is a late 50s model.
Good wishes

HKS,
My rifle shows only the serial Number on the action and the barrel when disassembled (it's a take down model).
How ever the Mauser action was always built in Germany which cannot be disputed. H&H,according to me always assembled and designed the contours in their factory paying special attention to balance, beauty and practicality. They had their typical stamp of H&H on the design of iron sights and bolt knobs till early 60s. I have encountered quite a few of these on Belgium Mauser actions and some on USA Enfield actions as well. In short, I am one proud owner of this great rifle and caliber.
Cheers!
Marksman
Ps: I would proudly possess an iof as well if they outsourced and created something like an H&H rifle.
