Few months back, I was bitten again by the gun bug, previously I had convinced myself I have more than enough firearms and would no longer spend money on firearms. On an off day, I was visiting a local gun store and the owner offered me a TZ 75 for price which was very hard to refuse. After consulting with prolific IFG member, XL_Target, I went ahead and bought it.
Tanfoglio basically cloned the CZ75 for the American markets in the cold war era, and got it’s fame in IPSC competitions. Later IMI sourced components from tanfoglio for their cz variant the Jericho 941. The pistol is a full size steel frame pistol, the build and finish is very nice, as expected from the Italians.
The pistol sat in the cabinet for more than month, and finally last week I got the chance to go to the range. For a few months I have been stocking up on Russian ammo for my ak and in the same frenzy I decided to give a shot to some cheaper 9mm variants like tulammo and Sellier & bellot. This is one of the rare ranges in California which allows bi metallic ammo, hence I brought along some 9mm cheaper ammo along with the usual Winchester 124G fmj’s.
I was running two pistols, Smith and Wesson SW9 Sigma 9mm, and the recently acquired TZ-75. The sigma is a no nonsense reliable rugged shooter. It chewed whatever I fed it without any complain. At 25 feet it gave decent 2.5” grouping. TZ on the other hand had failure to extract with both the tulammo 115 grain bimetallic and the sellier belot 115 g fmj. It ran the Winchester 124 g flawlessly; the large steel frame pistol took the feeling to an entirely different level. The heavier frame was way more accurate, there was barely any recoil, and the pistol just felt extremely snug in my palms. Every time I drew it from the holster, the sights would line up perfectly, which is not the case always with the Sigma 9mm. So I decided to change the range pit to 45 feet one. Shooting on this range surprised the hell out of me, 3” groups for shooting with my arm supported on the side of a wooden post and 5-6 “ group on the move, walking in from 45 feet to 30 feet (2 mag changes).
I was skeptical about the TZ being a better shot than my newer Taurus PT 92, but the old Italian CZ clone got the job done. The accuracy and the feel of the TZ made it my number one pistol to shoot
(Unfortunately I did not carry my phone to the range, hence don’t have any pictures for the shoot)

Re: First Impressions – Tanfoglio TZ – 75
I understand they are fine pistols. The FTEs could be a symptom of an ejctor or recoil spring problem, but I'm no expert.
I have two CZ-75Bs (9mm & .40 S&W) that work flawlessly. I also have a Tanfoglio Witness Compact (.45).
There's a couple of forums that you could pose the problem to.
One is a CZ forum with a sub-forum on "CZ Clones".

The other is the Tanfoglio And Witness Pistols Forum

Both have very knowledgable people.
