Dealers Margins
Hi all,
I have been visiting arms dealers for selecting a weapon for purchase and wonder at the amount of profit margins available to dealers in imported rifles.
I have been quoted prices ranging from Rs. 1,50,000 to 1,75,000 for Mannlicher Schoenauer 9 mm (.355 bore) and 9.5 mm (.375 bore) rifles. Similar rates were quoted for .250-3000 and .300 Savage bolt action rifles. This is despite the fact that cartridges for these calibres are costly and difficult to obtain. Fellow members have, however, mentioned that they have been offered 9 mm Mauser and similar rifles for Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 but they have refused to buy them because of the difficulty and cost of obtaining cartridges.
The marked difference in the rates quoted to me and to fellow members makes me marvel at the kinds of profit margins availed of by dealers in imported weapons.
I invite fellow members who may have bought or sold imported weapons in recent years to share their views and experiences
Regards.

20 - 25 k for a Mauser retail price is a bit hard to believe. You might want to take price figures quoted by some board members with a pinch of salt.

Re: Dealers Margins
Just tell a dealer that you have one of the above mentioned rifle for sale and ask him for how much he will buy it. Most probably he will say that he can not tell the price without actually seeing the condition of the rifle. Insist on to give you a rough estimate. From the price he quotes you can easily make out how much profit he is making by selling one.miroflex wrote:I have been quoted prices ranging from Rs. 1,50,000 to 1,75,000 for Mannlicher Schoenauer 9 mm (.355 bore) and 9.5 mm (.375 bore) rifles. The dealer will hardly offer you 50-60 K for one of the above caliber rifle.

I have yet to meet a dealer who is prepared to give even a rough estimate of thr price of a rifle without actually seeing it.
Regardd.

Re: Dealers Margins
Surely someone on this forum must have sold an imported rifle to or through a dealer. What kind of price did you get?

I asked a dealer who keeps good stock of guns and he said he will buy Savage .300 for 30,000 and MS 9 mm for 60,000. Hope this helps....

Re: Dealers Margins
Miroflex,
A couple of years ago I wanted to dispose my Krico 0.22 Rifle with a 5 and 10 shot magazine along with a scope and gun case in decent shape.
Contacted Bangalore Armories through a very good family friends of theirs and Mr. Senior quoted 40-45 K where as Krico’s were easily retailing at that time for about 1L.
A couple of days later a agriculturist based out of Bangalore managed to sell Mr. Junior of Bangalore Armories a Bruno Mark 1 with a nearly worn out Barrel. Mr. Junior had just gotten into the business then.
The asking price of the beaten up Bruno was a IL.
Hope this gives you a rough Indication.
Best.
