Over/Under (Pics)

Post by herb » Mon Jul 30, 2012 3:48 am

Sharing some pictures of a recent addition. Does not have the character of some of my 100+ year old hammer guns but it is a nice gun. 12ga, 30" barrels.

It is a Browning Superposed Pigeon, made in Belgium in 1956 and signed by the Browning master engraver Felix Funken.

I was never into O/U's and just have a Beretta for my occasional skeet. From my research over the last few days I learned that Browning discontinued the Superposed a few decades ago as it was too expensive to make economically. The gun is still offered as a custom gun from their Belgium custom shop. It has peculiar design as as the fore-end remains with the barrels when the gun is dismantled.

I was going through the 'Coronation Edition' of Ghoolamhasan Allibhoy's (Bombay dealers, and very popular in the '30's) catalogue this past week. A Browning O/U with double triggers was on offer for Rs.80!

Very similar to your possession.
