Get one. Dont go for the fancy stuff. Get a simple Fenix LD 10 single AA. That's the basic. There will be no turning back.

You wont believe the difference and will never regret buying it.

Noted Rajat, but somehow spending 30 thousand on one knife makes absolute sense :D crystal clear why someone would pay that kind of money for say a Yarborough or a Pacifica :D , spending 4k on a flashlight seems difficult to digest, my ignorance on the subject definately  . I'll take your word for it though.

I'll change my mind if I get to handle one and see for myself the build quality and the output. I'lve only seen and handled maglites and I find that they are not worth the money or bang for the buck...

Moin..... (going seriously OT) ...... So you're another fountain pen junkie!! I too have a Lamy, currently carrying a Sheaffer gifted to me by a kid who was a summer intern under me (they pay more to summer interns these days than full fledged MBAs got in mine!!).

Coming back, would love to see a good flash! Although I did purchase a couple of Maglites, I prefer the "ebay dot com" Cree LED flashlight. The maglites are used in lieu of candles (that's one good feature they have) in the rare occasions of power cuts in Mumbai.

Also, it would be a good idea to check the first aid kit in the car. I opened mine early on, when a street kid cut her finger near my parked car, and I gave her the band aid type stuff....... realised it was pretty bad - no adhesion power whatsoever! In a survival / car repair / camping scenario, a deep bleeding cut is more likely, so a couple of butterfly bandages would help. Unfortunately, my neighbourhood chemist doesn't know what they are, neither does the chap in the pharmacy at Fortis Super Specialty Super Expensive Hospital!!

Someone posted about a blade meet in Mumbai.......sometime back.......???
Cheers!

EssDee

Aloha,

A BOB presupposes that you have someplace to go to IF there is an Event.

Living on an island like I do, there is really no place to go to that already will not have a

bunch of people there before you.

Unless it is an Earth Shattering event, earthquake or Tsunami, best is for us to stay in place.

In the event of Hurricane, the worst is loosing the roof and damage to structure or Looting.

I'm more or less prepared.

Lots of blue tarp, food, water, generator with gas and guns with ammo.

Not to mention communication, VHF and CB radios. Some are HAM Radio Emergency operators.

So, if you Bug Out, do you have a safe/secure place to go to?

In case I have to bug out, I know I must get out of Mumbai. So I own a small pad in North Goa...where I can drive off to. The other place (and much more favoured) is a friends land overlooking the Mulshi lake that I have the privilege to camp in anytime that I want to. Mulshi is about 50 km away from Lonavala in the hills and the ideal place to hunker down in case of an emergency :)

Sorry guys i was busy with my exams couldn't reply
i'm so happy i never expected to get such huge response Thanks

I read as many posts as possible

I just see ppl telling i have this i have that i have BOB for more than a week to survive some ppl telling that they have secret hideout and a secret path mapped out for hideout all sort of stuff.

But how many of you actually thought of the capacity of your body you may have BOB prepard to go out for war with food, arms, ammunitions, tents, gas masks, axe, hammer, knife, machete all sort of stuff. But are you physically capable of carrying 25-30kg load around. I regularly jog for 5 Kms everyday just running with nothing on me i feel exhausted my BOB is 10kgs I've tried to run with it i can cover a maximum of 2kms then i get winded i need another 10min to regain my strength. With a mere load of 10 kgs i find it difficult in case of any natural disaster or war scenarios how will you be able to carry all those stuff if your transport breaks down you may have to run, climb walls and stairs you will be in such a state of mind you just drop extra load and run for cover in that extra load you may have the most critical items for survival.

So i say plan every move keep multipurpose tools carry enough food for 72hrs and hunting gear they are enough to provide food for months a hammock is better and more safe than a tent basic knowledge about reading maps and compass is better than carrying expensive GPS
"Keep it simple "

I also read about firearms all kinds from assault rifles to sub-machine guns to pistols and shotguns well firearms are essential tools but all the advanced kind of arms you carry once run out of ammo is useless you need to select a weapon which is not only light and multipurpose but also the most widely used cuz when you run out of ammo you can find it every where from depots to deserted vehicles both public and military .

I prefer
Ak series in the eastern hemisphere
M16's and AR15's in the norther hemisphere
Well in India since firearms are banned i prefer machete in case if you find any .303 never use it most of the ammo are expired(True fact: Mumbai 26/11) and worst case scenario it may blow up in your face .

Depending on Electronics gadgets the worst idea rain, streams, river anything that has got to do with water will short your entire gadgets I'm not saying dont carry just saying carry a GPS and satellite phone, regular GSM/CDMA phone no use in case of a terrorist attack military will shutdown the lines and in case of a EMP burst all your gadget are useless simple dead weight

A simple map compass can do wonders
