how much needed for competitive shooting to start off with ?
Hi guys,
I plan to join a shooting club in kolkata next week.. few members here have sugested me North calcutta shooting club, which I will join. I am not strong financially but shooting has always attracted me. I am 25 yrs old and self employed (am a web designer and willing to do some other job if required). I want to take it up as a career and want to win medals for my country and earn respect. what i want to know is how much am i looking to spend when I join a club and start my the sport as a newcomer/learner. I know i would either go for 10 m air rifle OR 50 meter rifle prone. Please friends help me to evaluate the amount i have to spend.

I can't give you a ball park figure, only that price wise, 10m air rifle will be cheaper.
More than the money is the time investment. To reach the top, you have to spend time practising, competing. Many high ranking shooters I know are full time. You have to decide what your ceiling is. Particularly as you are not a government employee on a sports quota appointment.

Thanks hamiclar01.
I have no issue with time..am a self employed person..I can easily get ampl amount of time for practice and also space for that. i am mainly concerned about the money part....I think I had already assumed that 10 mtr rifle would be cheaper ..but I just needed confirmation which I got from your post. Thanks for the reply man.

Even 10 metre air rifle will cost a good bit of money.Of course, what is expensive is relative.
Top of the game (I think)
http://www.schiesssport-baur.de/?gclid= ... 3wodWycAjg
About half of what the above AR costs

Similarly, you can look at Hammerli, Walther and Anschutz too.
Personally, I would look at something like this.
Used and not abused and relatively less taxing on the wallet. If you are resourceful and perseverant, you can get one at a decent price or get one from abroad.
