I filed an rti to find if any restrictions were imposed on knives. The reply said none were issued by the state govt. The central govt says state govts have the power to impose restrictions. The state of Karnataka has imposed none.

I asked about knives, not swords, but there are no restrictions.SO there.

I am surprised.Do you read Kannada?

From your posts, and your willingness to import one if someone sponsors you, I gathered that you had a clearance from the Karnataka HO about swords. They are about knives then.

Re Kannada, why surprise? I can read the script. So, would you mind posting the copy for us?Thanks.

I take it blades 9 inches longer and 2 inches wider than allowed also include swords, which as mentioned, are not restricted.Yes?

Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? I don't have a scanner, but i could post a photo. Is that alright? And....how do i do it?

Lets say I am a neighbour to Bangalore  .

You can upload a photo simply as an attachment to your post.Whatever information is gathered under RTI helps to enhance the data/knowledge base involving issues relevant to all of us.Hence my request.Thanks.

Skyman,
I do not want to discourage you but at the same time get certain points very clear. there can be no restrictions regarding importing a sword but there can be issues regarding obtaining a valid license for keeping one. If you have the license to keep a blade above 9 inchs X 2 inchs I am ready to sponsor your experiment
Cheers

I doubt you need a license if you are going to keep it on display.?

You do not need an arms license to possess a sword, provided there is no such notification issued under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 for your area. This matter was discussed in detail in this thread http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16750

But sometimes needless problems, probably out of confusion are created by Customs, even when there is no relevant notification under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959. Similar problem, when Customs was asking for arms license for swords, even though when there was no legal requirement is discussed in this thread http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16506

GBM,

First of all thank you.You are a life saver.I do not know if you read Kannada.I have posted the Pics of the rti reply.Pursue them, and see if it is valid, seeing no restrictions means no restrictions, and Jayantha can get me a sword as a gift :D

If you don't, let me say the reply clearly states " Govt has not issued any restrictions as per the arms acts".

So Jayantha, out with the money my friend!!!

Dear Skyman,
Why not am willing to take the risk. Pm me your number and let us discuss. You have made me a terribly excited person. Atleast there is no harm in trying.
Cheers

Not trying to discourage or scare you but want you to be well prepared in advanced for fight. What do you think before proceeding, why not communicate with this gentleman to know the end results of his experience http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16506

better safe than sorry my friend,However I had seen people selling swords in Andheri east near gurunanak gurudwara, and with Tahir arms stores in Mumbai they were not sharpened so I guess they were meant for display.

GBM, you had directed me to that thread earlier, and i note some of the confusion was of his own doing.Nevertheless, i shall prepare to that extent if we really will try to buy something.I appreciate your effort and will get in touch with him.

Perhaps we could give you a signed sword as a token for all your aid eh? :D :D

Oh, and did u check out the pics?
