Saleem,
Sorry to dissappoint you, but the IOF does have a 3 lug lock not 6 as you mention. What you see is 3 lock vector. Look closely and you shall see 9 notches. Thats 3 per lug. Plus the fact that cartridge case sits into the barrel end and not in the reciever itself is an added safety factor.

A 30-06 rifle with aluminium bolt!!!??? Are even the lugs aluminium??? :o

That round will create more than 60,000 psi of pressure and there are only some tiny aluminium lugs that are stopping the bolt from flying out and lodging themselves into the shooters shoulder???

I must admit I was getting a bit interested in this weapon but stumbling upon this has left me shocked.

The bolt is not aluminium. It's a steel alloy that looks like aluminum. The reciever though is made from a rather weak alloy, again not aluminium. Unfortunaely i can't say exactly what it is. :?

Naga,

The IOF .30-06 is an out and out copy of the Sauer 202, which in turn, I read somewhere, is a Perazzi/ Matteralli design!

Here's the link http://www.mattarelliusa.com/history_and_design.html

It's an altogether different matter that the workmanship is nowhere near the latter two.

is the barrel fitting etc the same? sorry to ask such a question, to me the barrel and the bolt are important. As most is talked about the bolt but not much of the barrel.

Barrel length is 24", twist ration is 1:10, barrels are chrome lined. Bear in mind that the cartridge sits inside the barrel at the time of firing the arm. My gun is a 2008 model and I feel it has heavier or thicker barrels than those made post 2010. The barrel can be easily removed by removing 3 screws with an Allen key at the juncture of the receiver and barrel. The muzzle end is banded and the foresight sits on this band.

All these designs and measurements are the same as the Sauer 202. However, IOF has put sights from their .22 rifle and these do not conform to the original Sauer design.

I'll put up some pics of the rifle opened up soon. I'm working on the stock so the rifle is opened up as it is. Maybe that will give to a better idea. Stay tuned on the ,30-06 thread.

I wish that receiver should also be of same metal as the barrel. It would lend more integrity to the rifle. A rigid and strong receiver adds to the accuracy. The bolt and receiver are not made in house at IOF factory. Therefore they will not have consistent quality. Considerations for government purchases are known to one and all. They could have easily made the bolt and receiver in house. Well if you make everything inside then where will the money come for chai- paani. Outsourcing is lucrative business both for the party who is doing it and also for the one on whose behalf it is being done. In private sector also the story is same.

This should not be an issue because in the original Sauer design the receiver is not a load bearing component of the system and the bolt lugs fit into the barrel.

The barrel I hear is of good quality. I suppose it is also chrome lined so it should last ages with the right ammo.
