This is not for Nitric acid. .but it is necessary Sulfuric acid . . ..

6(N) acid means 50% H20 + 50% acid.

When we make 6(N) HNO3 acid , We mix half testube water & half testtube acid in a beaker...

You guys will get hurt. "Not adding water to acid" rule is for all of the strong acids. A large amount of heat is released when strong acids are mixed with water. Adding more acid releases more heat. If you add water to acid, you form an extremely concentrated solution of acid initially. So much heat is released that the solution may boil very violently, splashing concentrated acid out of the container! If you add acid to water, the solution that forms is very dilute and the small amount of heat released is not enough to vaporize and spatter it. So Always Add Acid to water, and never the reverse.

For HNO3 Normality = Molarity
6 moles in 1000 mL = 0.6 mole in 100 mL
Mass of 0.6 moles = 0.6 x 63 g/mol = 0.378 g [Molar mass of HNO3 = 63.01284 g/mol]
we take 0.378 g of HNO3 and add to enough water to reach 100 mL

This gives 6N Soln. of HNO3

I want to say that the mixing of water & acid is not dangourous expect H2SO4 , it is very dangourous..

I am a Chemistry hons. Student..
In lab work we have to find 4 radicals doing more than 20 tests with making extract in 2 hr.
In many times Conc HCl & HNO3 falls in my hand ,, but we become very careful when we are useing Conc. H2SO4 , It is very dangerours.
