wow ! :D its nice to be in swiss and India is second highest in privately owned arms! with such strict firearm policies, unbelievable.
I think in India we should have some rules like optional military training if some one want arm license.

I believe that the figure of 46 million may hold true, but I wouldn't call them registered or licensed. Just about 6 to 8 million in my estimate are officially sanctioned weapons with the civilian populace. The rest are unlicensed.

Moreover, these are not really assault weapons or such that may be used in an armed conflict against govt. forces, similar to what we see in some parts of the Middle East, Africa or South East Asia. Most of these guns are of the shotgun, katta and Munger variety. Why the govt. takes no or little notice or action of this is a rather debatable issue.

Another issue is the theft of govt. arms stolen from para military forces and used by insurgents and secessionists. Obviously these are not the usual civilian firearms.
Justice alone is the mainstay of government and the source of prosperity to the governed, injustice is the most pernicious of things; it saps the foundations of the government and brings ruin upon the realm - Sher Shah Sur, Sultan-ul-Adil.

The 40 million guns in India is total BS. Read here, how they came up with those figures:

YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOMETIME
