Moin, just an idea - you can probably get a set of carving knives (available online; and in Mumbai / Thane in a chain of stationery shops called Mango, dunno the quality of the latter!). If you get into the skull production business, you'll need something customised!
Cheers!

Thanks Essdee, I was royally confused the last time I went to Homedepot in Vikhroli. You should tell me which is the correct Rustoleum to buy....Some intersting spray on finishes too. Will these work on metal, Never heard of Mango, where are these ?essdee1972 wrote:Moin, just an idea - you can probably get a set of carving knives (available online; and in Mumbai / Thane in a chain of stationery shops called Mango, dunno the quality of the latter!). Will take up a Home Town visit with you...... or probably we'll be lucky in CM area! I will SMS you the details from the Rustoleum can I have at home. I honestly haven't tried the finishes - they seem to give cracked porcelain and other interesting effects!!
Mango has an outlet (original one) near Thane station and another in one of the malls surrounding Vashi station (AFAIK). A bit too far from your place!! I did get a set of X-Acto knives from ebay.com, but haven't done any serious carving. Use them to cut cardboard, thermocol, etc. for kid's projects! The general X-Actos are not really carving cutters, anyway! You might like to check out whittling knife sets somewhere online. Meant mostly for wood, and that too good softwood.
And if you do get into skull production, I am in queue!!

Moin,
I think you should write the story of this re-invention of your blade. It is a tale worth telling from scratch. This thread does capture some of it...but I think you should re-tell the story
Because, this is not just a blade. It is a result of all the GOOD in you...your enthusiasm, the ability to see big picture, your creativity, the fine attention to detail, your passion and the will to keep at it, the ability to laugh at your errors and learn from them, to share your experiences, the deep commitment to quality, your ability to seek insight and then follow your heart.
Massive Respect!

Our grandfathers and their fathers used to work quite hard in the forests. Hence the antlers and teeth.. Too bad they never imagined life in apartments and ban on import
Cheers

The knife's done, a few scratches here and there that will be taken out when I learn to buff... A nice leather sheath if I can source some good leather from Dharavi...

Thanks Essdee, do let me know about the Rustoleum. There were 5 to 6 Diff types, does it leave any residue or a coating on the steel.

I don't know what I can add to anything anyone has said here except that this is exceptional work. U ever need that thing field tested.......................
U should try differentially hardening the edge. Maybe Marthandan can help.
