Need help to choose a folder.

Post by incoming » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:57 pm

hi guys,

I joined IFG today after spending a few weeks just browsing through this lovely forum. I have always wanted to own a nice folder and now that i can afford one i am torn between two choices that i have,

1. Gerber mini swagger
2. Smith & Wesson CKG108 Extreme Special Ops

i am looking for a compact knife that is well built, compact and has a sharp blade and one which i can carry with me for my long road trips. I will be great full if you folks can help me pick a quality folder.

Thanks in advance :)

PS: Picked up a Chinese folder from Kovi Gun Shop in Bangalore, it was shitty. Hope their army uses similar quality weapons.

Hi and a very warm welcome. My 2 cents, avoid both of the above and get the Byrd Cara Cara or any of the Byrd Series of knives by Spyderco. More Wham Bam Thank you Mam buck for the bang  than any other folder at this price point IMHO.

Hope their army uses similar quality weapons.[/quote] :D :D :D Nice I wish the same too !!

Yepps Moin is right go the Byrd Cara Cara or else one of the Ontario Rat 1 Folder. You will get one around $32 USD and it is one of the awesome blades. Supposing it to be your first folder, I think knowingly or unknowingly you are bound to abuse the blade and the knife and it takes a lot of abuse rather robustly. Recently some friend of mine took mine away and am again looking at one.

Moin, Jayanta

Thank you very much for the warm welcome guys :) and thank you for the quick reply. Was very busy the last couple of days so could not get back soon. I am taking your advice and ordering an Ontario RAT 1 desert tan from ebay. It will take some time to reach Bangalore, but i think the wait will be worth it. I had seen Gerber mini swagger and Smith and Wesson extreme ops being sold on HomeShop18 and got carried away, your timely advice stopped me from a costly mistake, so thanks again :). For now i am watching knife reviews on youtube and waiting eagerly for my first good knife :D.

Cheers
