Miscellaneous Remarks on Arms License

Post by AgentDoubleS » Sun May 27, 2012 4:11 pm

All,

I recently got an arms license issued in Delhi- post appealing to the LG. It is for NPB Rifle. I had applied under the sports category and attached GVM certificates.

The physical copy of the license has the following remarks mentioned on it:

"The arms license has been granted by the Hon LG for NPB rifle only for one year and maybe extended further subject the applicant joining the National Rifle association of India".

I know arms act does not have any such criteria included in it. However, if I do a literal translation does this mean if I simply get the membership of NRAI I should not have issues with the renewal? No participation in any events!?

Alternatively, and more importantly, if i take membership of DSRA instead of NRAI will (or could) they raise this as a technicality in renewing my license?

Going by past experience I want to have all insurances in place to avoid a head on with the dept again.

You are lucky.
My remark says, license will be renewed based upon how serious he has been in shooting sports!!!
:)
There are benefits to joining the nrai. You get weapons at a discounted rate from them, accessories like clay pigeons, ammunition too. The demands of your note will be met. As you are in delhi i would suggest that you Become a life member of both the nrai and the dsra.
I am a life member of both. I figured that i would rather pay a one time fee than keep on paying annual fees over the next 3-4 decades.

How long did it take in the appeal process after initial rejection ?

Congrats on getting the Rifle license.

Once I hired a lawyer, he took a week to submit the appeal, the date for the hearing was a month and a half after and another month and a half to get the physical license in my hand.

You have very little choice left in this matter. Either do as per their personal desires written in the miscellaneous remarks or get these remarks and duration of license corrected to confirm with Arms Act 1959.

Dear SS,

Join the NRAI, it'd be useful in future. I heard they can get ammo and firearms at cheaper price. I'm sure joining the NRAI will help you convince the babus that you are really into guns.

Dear Safarigent,

How will you prove that you are serious into shooting sports? By certificates or you'll have to own gold medals to convince the babus?
Don't be surprised if they ask you to bring a gold medal in order to renew your license.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Thanks Priyan.

GBM, the personal desires seem convenient to meet, I would have taken the membership anyway, just not sure if I should take it both for DSRA and NRAI or NRAI alone.
