My family & I are planning a road trip to Himachal this coming week. If all goes per plan, should leave by this Monday. The itinerary I've planned is as follows:
Delhi - Chail (stop over Chail for 2 nights) - forest rest house
Chail - Shoja planning on going via Narkanda/ Jalori pass (stop over Shoja for 3 nights) - forest rest house
Shoja - Nagar (stop over Nagar for 4 nights) - forest rest house
Nagar - Bilaspur (stop over Bilaspur for a night) - PWD rest house
Bilaspur - Delhi
I would really appreciate any inputs from anyone who has done this/ any segments of this route before. Especially in terms of road conditions, possible stop overs/ refuelling points/ eating joints/ possible areas for some angling etc. Also, if anyone has any other advice it would be most welcome.
Never posted a query for a trip advisory before (used to believe in winging it - part of the charm of a road trip), but got a 8 month old travelling with me this time... so the extra caution. We all grow up - eh?
Cheers!
Abhijeet
P.S. - I think I should mention here, that I've done the Delhi - Chandigarh, Delhi - Shimla route umpteen number of times as well as Shimla - Narkanda (once). But the Narkanda - Jalori pass - Shoja - Nagar sectors are new to me and I've been especially worried after a friend mentioned that the Narkanda - Shoja section may not exactly be very motorable.
P.P.S. - I'll be driving a car with decent ground clearance (M&M Scorpio) but with no 4x4

Try tam bhp India if you havent done it already - probably was first stop

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-tra ... hoghi.html
My advise Zirakpur - Kalka - Parwanoo choke point whether it can be avoided or negotiated differently why not try Paonta Sahib Nahan Solan Kandaghat Chail
Good luck

Re: Road trip to Himachal - route advice sought
Thanks Navi I believe they have a new bypass in place now for the bottleneck before Parwanoo. Not sure, as I will be trying it for the first time.
Yep, did post on team-bhp but the mods out their in their wisdom have merged my thread with a generic Himachal thread.... no responses yet <shrugs> c est la vie
Like I mentioned, the sector(s) I'm worried about are Narkanda - Jaori pass - Shoja - Nagar. Neither have I done that route before nor am I sure of the road conditions (as this is slightly off the beaten track).
Cheers!
