Inherit firearms (but overseas)

Hello Everyone, i have been trying to find some information and will highly appreciate if someone can guide me into the right direction.

My father in India has few firearms and now he wants to give it to me, the problem is that i am now a citizen of another country. Can someone please advise what all is required now to for me to take these firearms from India. I have checked with the country of my residence and i know the process required here.

They have sentimental value moreover they are in good working condition, I am sure i can use them here & teach my children how to use firearms responsibly

Please make sure that the firearms are of NBP category. Many countries have prohibited specific bores for civilians.
Then, what I would've done, is file an RTI. There are many websites filing online RTIs, to know how to export arms.
It'll take around 2 weeks, and you'll have accurate info as the authorities would be knowing the latest info.

Thanks Varunik, Thanks for your reply and the details you have provided, can you please provide some more details on where do i find the details for NBP category and which website can i use for file for RTI? I am do not know about NBP or RTI but if you can provide i link where i can learn more about it. I will highly appreciate.

Dear Thigga,
NPB stands for Non Prohibited Bore, all the cartridges that are not used currently or in the past by Indian armed forces fall into NPB category. Could you provide more information about th firearms? Since they are in India, most likely they are NPB here. What country are you currently residing in? A little bit more details will help us to provide more info.
Also, are you still an Indian citizen, AFAIK only citizens can file RTI application in India. Also some countries only allow citizen to import firearms, so are you citizen of the country you are currently in?

Apologies for my late reply, Its a .22 rifle and a 12 bore double barrel gun. I wanted to import these gun to my current country of residence i.e. Australia, I will appreciate if you can please provide more information

Pragmatic thing would be either sell it off or pass it on to close relative it stays in the family because taking them out will be way too much hassle

Go through the forum, search in legal section, there is a procedure for you to own these weapons and own them purely on heredity value itself.
