Also stray dog bit 2 of our goats and since no one would buy the meat in fear of rabies, we had to bury them. One of them was even pregnant.
I may get flamed for this but my personal opinion is that every stray animal must die, no matter if it's dog, cat, goat, elephant or even our sacred cows. I say make it legal to hunt the stray dogs, like the coyotes in USA since sterilizing them is a lengthy process and it's expensive in India. Also stray cows are the lead cause of motorcycle accidents here.

I am a confirmed dog lover and I am sure many here are.Having said that, this is what my views are.

1. I do not believe in killing all stray dogs. I support sterilisation and vaccination.Blue Cross in Hyderabad has been doing an exceptionally good job and I am a first hand witness to their dedication. They are only limited by their lack of resources.

2.Dogs are pack animals. Once they form packs and begin to show feral/human-animal aggressive tendencies, they need to be put down without hesitation.Capture and kill them humanely or shoot them where you can.

There are no contradictions in my views as far as I am concerned. All stray dogs are not human/animal aggressive.Hence, no wholesale slaughter.

My views. You are free to disagree.

Best-
Vikram

Of course many here are including myself.
Dogs are pack animals. Once they form packs and begin to show feral/human-animal aggressive tendencies, they need to be put down without hesitation.Capture and kill them humanely or shoot them where you can.
It is quite likely if the packs are usually away from contact with human habitation like in farms or fields. But not very likely if the packs are in close contact with human habitation like in cities where they somehow get socialized or trained to behave in civilized manner. Yes anybody driving their hunting instincts by behaving like a prey is sure to get "hunted". Such prey like behavior of screaming or running in fear is usually exhibited by children and those unfamiliar with dog or animal behavior. Also when the female dog has given birth to puppies and is lactating, in order to protect them she becomes unusually aggressive. It is always best to avoid going near such dogs.

Of course wholesale slaughter of animals cannot be supported especially in the the view of Article 51A(g) of the Constitution. Came across this unusual story where street dogs guarded an abandoned new born baby the entire night http://jaagruti.org/2010/05/15/3-street ... -may-1996/

I'm happy as long as they compensate us for our goats that got killed by stray dogs, Jackfruit and mangoes that monkeys destroyed, areca nuts that squirrels consumed and rice that were destroyed by elephants. Not to mention all of our pigeons were eaten by crows.
IMHO if you start taking things away from people, eventually they will have nothing to lose and they'll fight back. That's where clash between men and animals starts...

as much as i enjoy{not love} dogs etc, and i do believe one should practice what one preaches that is those who say and speak on behalf of animals should by virtue take care of problematic animals, or else shut up. otherwise they do not practice what the believe and prevent me from practicing what i believe.

even artical 21 does give me right to protract the lives of my loved ones from any danger/threat either of men or beast.

and please do not turn to look at us nagas to solve your dog problems with chilly and bamboo shoots,

You never saw crows eating pigeons? There were about a group of 10 crows that ate all of our pigeons, they attack the pigeons from top pinning it down in the air (Looks same as when pigeons mate) and hit it's head with their strong beak. Crows are smart and skilled hunter and easily kills pigeons.

I managed to kill 2 of them with slingshot but crows are clever birds, it's hard to put 'em down without air rifles.

Yeah, I agree with nag this time. I 'enjoyed' dogs a few times when I was in Mokokchung. Contrary to popular belief they do taste good. Maybe naga will provide a nice recipe for us which will also help to solve the stray dog problem.
nagarifle, let's go dog hunting with your beloved 105mm. I'll import some 105mm shells from Darra.

Very sad news..
Right now the best the father should do is to eliminate those 11 dogs so that this kind of tragic incident does not happen to someone else..Everyone in this world has to help himself and noone else will come. The govt or Ms menka gandhi can not bring his daughter and might be possible that they do not even know about all this accidents. they all sleep safe in their Cozy homes ......God help us All

Hello Guys
In Chennai many people met with accident because of these stray dogs at late night when we return home these dogs chase the way many people ride their two wheeler brutally and suffer major injure but when we complain to blue cross they just guide us to call municipal but they come during festival or election time.Their is a limit for any thing better menka gandhi adopt all these dogs and have it in her streets not in our streets.

its so unfortunate.. its all about being there and imagine your kids at the mercy of 12 dogs, only thing comes to mind is kill em all. i think stray animals cannot be a part of a civilised society, i mean i have been abroad and worked in a couple of countries and i dont remember seeing stray dogs. we talk about being the next super power and what not... this is not done, there shouldn't be any NGO fighting for stray animals.. this is not the first time it happened, the court should quash all their cases/appeals based on these reports. the the local municipal department should be given all the powers back to take care of the strays as they deem fit.

Dear Mundaire,

Agree with you, wish we had sensible people making decisons. In the apartment where I live we had a pack of 7 dogs they tried to get rid of them but it was such a pest. Eventually they had to change the type of gate to prevent dogs entering.

Naga,

I am game to try your suggestion :)

Regards,
drifter.
