Sure, will wait for your thread. It will surely be a good source of information for us here in the US and India.shooter wrote:Priyan I am aware of this and trying to fight a losing battle as the masses agree with gun control (and so do many shooters).
I will right a thread about attitude of people of different countries towards control.

Even though he had better sense of helping others. I personally believe that if you are not taking of yourself you cannot help others too.

I hope i dont sound like an auhority. What i meant was that I have been fortunate enough to travel the world and interact with shooters (and non shooters) from around the world (maybe more than 30 countries) and guess what does shooter talk about.Bhargav wrote:Sure, will wait for your thread. Yup you got that right.
I just wanted to write my experiences re: the attitude of these people.
No surprise that when you read the reaction of these people you will know the gunlaws in their respective countries.
Govt. is ot a special person. Its made of people and also representative of people. No surprise the people and their opinions are representative of govt policies and vice versa.
You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Re: What is more sad?
Saddest part is.. panic coupled with sense of civic duty fogged his thinking. He should have been armed and then Using a cell phone would have been more appropriate thus letting the buggers be cordoned by the police. After all they were not in hurry. They had enough time to butcher an innocent man.
If he was armed and opened fired two things would have happened-
1. He shoot and kill one of them and the others took to heel and he became a Bond. And finally he is escorted to lockup for questioning even if its for while.
2. Weeks after Survivor ruffians pay him a visit to make him a James Bond.
But the most important thing is ' if was armed and behaved like an unarmed, nothing would have happened to him.
ie. he shouts, the burglars charge to him like a pack of lions, he fires in the air.. bingo the lions ran back like rats.

Re: What is more sad?
What is sad is that things like these happen and people still do not want to take responsibility for their own security. What is even more sad is that someone having gone through such a harrowing experience has still not woken up. Is it cowardice.. i would not think so , he did want to help so i guess he isnt' coward. Maybe the society has become too "civilized" and and has been sensitized toward not using firearms for self defense. What people are forgetting is bad guys will be bad and have a field day till good guys wake up and take a stand for themselves.

The whole episode send chills down my spine....i can not even think of judgging that poor soul as hardly less than 2% (an imagenary figure which ment less) individuals are gun literate, most associate guns with violence or a violent person not selfdefence. gun literate law biding citizens are denied a firearm licence......the whole situation is messy and sad.

Re: What is more sad?
The criminal attack is heinous and most unfortunate. However the stupidity of the victim cannot be ignored. The incident also reflects the lack of awareness among masses on how to deal with uncommon situations, like the said victim encountered. He panicked, and panic clouded his judgement.
Allow me to observe that not all people are capable of fighting back, not all are capable of self defense. It is a fact and a reality. Even the best of us can be overwhelmed by sudden untoward situations. The best defense is a presence of mind to deal with unforeseen violent situations. Even a person carrying a firearm if he does not act wisely according to a given situation might land in a hospital ICU, if not a morgue.
Along with our fight for RKBA we must also, as a society, exert pressure on the governments to try and eliminate violent crime and punish the perpetrators of such crimes with nothing less than capital punishment.
Regards...
and my sympathies to the victim.
