Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
Salams. Time for some quiz friends, let's have some gup-shup on above. Do you carry your handgun chambered? Whether you do or do not, kindly highlight the reasons for either, also mention the handgun you do carry on regular basis, with or without one in the pipe.
Regards.

Unless its a revolver and maybe if I were carrying a double action pistol. But, a strict no no with a single action pistol.

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
First of all why do I carry a handgun? For self defense.
Quite possibly, if I am in a situation where I will need to defend myself, it will come up without any advance warning. If I had advance warning of a life threatening situation, I would make sure I wasn't there.
If I carry a modern handgun for self defense why would I carry it without a round in the chamber? If I did, I might as well carry a rock as it will not be ready when I need it and I might not have two hands free to rack the slide.
Tell me why one should be afraid to carry a modern pistol with one in the chamber (whether DA or SA).
What is there to be afraid of? Mechanical issues or handling issues?

I always carry mine with one in pipe.
I have a gun with decocker and manual safety.
In bad situation just unlock safety for ready to shoot

Xl_target,
Somehow in Indian scenario, sight of a handgun from an alleged victim is quite rare to an aggressor. I assume therefore he will give one ample time to rake the slide if need be. Also a handgun is always assumed to be loaded more or less by all. So, I'd take my chances cause the other guy wouldn't be willing to take chances while looking down the barrel.

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
Totally agree with XL Sir,
I carry a revolver on daily basis for last 15 years. all six rounds loaded , and additional 36 rounds in speed loaders.
In my family all major member have gun licence and they say to me are you going for a WAR. It is my thinking without the ammo what is the use of a gun.
Now coming to chamber or not, someone suggested me always load only five in a six cylinder revolver. I dont know why they want to do that.
I was fortunate enough to handle few pistols also,it all depend on the model whether to keep a round in chamber or not.
WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT A ROUND IN CHAMBER
if you can explain.
Regards.

Marksman, that is called wishful thinking. Apparently you are willing to bet your life on the hope that your hypothesis is correct. I guess I am not interested in taking those kinds of chances.marksman wrote:Xl_target,

I too am waiting on the answer to this question.WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT A ROUND IN CHAMBER
Now I will admit that with certain older revolvers that didn't have a firing pin block, it might make sense. Also there are some Soviet era handguns that were not mechanically trustworthy. So unless there is a specific reason that would make sense, you are setting yourself up for failure in a sudden self defense situation.

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
Aloha,
IF Concealed Carry were legal in Hawaii, the Wife and I would be carrying with loaded chamber.
At the moment it isn't. We hope to change That in a few years.
However, when we travel to other states that allow Conceaed Carry, we do.
Wife would most likely be carrying a fully loaded S & W 357 magnum with speed loader(s).
I will most likely have the same set up when with the Wife.
Having had More experience than the Wife, I am Comfortable carrying a SA Colt 1911, loaded, Safety on.
Likewise a loaded DA Beretta with Safety OFF. It is the same as a DA revolver. Safety Not necessary.
When you Need a Gun, you NEED a gun.
Having an empty chamber in the US can get you killed.

Aloha
yogiBear what an understanding life partner you have Sir.
When ever my better half sees my gun , she gets nervous and asks me ''WHY WHY WHY You need this".
I conceal carry from by better half.
The reason is I lost a very near and dear to me, just because he was not having a gun and that bas.....td was having one. My wife she is happy go lucky where I live.
Now once again coming to the OP, Sir no need for a vote just for gun shup.
I think responsible gun owner here know how to use their gun, and IFG fellows definatly.
Please don't mind but one in pipe is really some thing new for me.
I see gun with chamber or barrel , really don't know what is a PIPE in a gun.
Regards.
Ps. very sorry to say when you carry your hand gun why you keep your ammo in a pipe , what kind of help you get from a pipe . Kindly help out SIR.

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
I think we discussed it in this thread but I don't think the shopkeeper ever got a shot off. Watch the video carefully. He is under extreme stress and he cant get a round into the chamber. His empty chambered gun didn't do much here. Those guy's (yes this is an Indian scenario) never ran away at the sight of his gun. They didn't think twice. The kept coming and only left after he was fatally shot.

only 32owner; "pipe" in this case means barrel.

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
XL Sir as per the bosting of OP it has to be meant as Chamber.
No one keeps a cartridge in a barrel.
I just wanted to keep things simple. Even if guns are easily and with right price avalable. There are no pipe in a gun to load a round and keep it ready.
I think slang language with GUNS will result in some bad situation only
Regards.

Only32owner, dude ever heard of slang? Catch the context man, don't take the literal meaning. Do not stir the pot, keep it simple. Oh and yes there is no pot in a gun
And the slang will not cause any situation .

Re: Do you carry your Handgun chambered? Why, Why not?
Bhargav Sir,
you are senior best regards,
but when comes to guns i would like to keep it simple.
kindly dont jump on me try to understand .
when someone says I keep one in pipe, it is a total disrespect towards a gun.
No sensible gun owner keeps one in the pipe,
from when gun has a pipe also as a part.
Yes we are also cooool and chiiiiled.
but i think what we are here to descuss safe gun handling gun laws and many more things.
NOT to call chamber as PIPE.
Regards.
Please stop arguing on semantics. You are not helping the thread. Having,'one in the pipe' and 'stove pipes', is common language across firearm boards. Let's not hear anymore on this. Mod.
