You may give a try, no harm. If they have notifications issued by States they will provide, else they will decline and provide you only the ones issued by them. The cost may be more than Rs 10 if the notifications are many. They should calculate the cost and let you know. CAPIO of the post office should be able to guide you about the calculation aspect and when to submit extra money or you may try searching it on some RTI website.

Skyman,

There is nothing really complicated about filing an RTI application.Anybody who can read and write can file one.You obviously can do both. Now if you could only get over your fear of the consequences

Cheapest way to pay the fee is through Postal Order.Do not send the application through a courier. They are normally not allowed entry into State govt. secretariats.Send it through Registered Post or Speed Post.

Majority of the people do not want to bother about pursuing the matter till they get a satisfactory reply. Most want to be handed it over on a platter.

This is the format that I use if there is no format specified.

Application under Right to Information Act

1.Name of the applicant
2.Address
3. Citizenship Indian
4. Information Sought As per page attached
5. Details of Fee Paid -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Format in which information is sought Printed
7. Whether inspection of file is sought No/Yes

Place:
Date:

Name and address

You already have all the information that you need to apply under RTI.

If someone wants to personally go and inspect some particular files in the public office then he ticks that option. Then RTI officer gives some particular time and date to come and inspect those files. It is usually done to find out some specific information in the public files and then get a copy of some useful information searched out of it. It is not needed in your case since your are asking for very specific information related to the exact provisions of law in force.

Hello,

I did an rti to the karnataka home ministry regarding any restrictions under the arms acts as goodboy mentor advised, and they said they were no restrictions imposed by the state government, only those imposed by the central government. Can anyone tell me what they are,or do i have to do another rti?

The rule used in computer science garbage in, garbage out(GIGO) also applies to a large extent to RTI. Probably vague questions in RTI prompted vague reply in return from Karnataka Home Ministry.

What are the questions you asked Karnataka Home Ministry? What is the reply of Karnataka Home Ministry?

I asked what you taught me-

1) Please provide me one certified copy each, if there exist notifications issued under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959/ Rule 19 of Arms Rules 1962 that are in force for Bangalore city.

2) Also please let me know if besides notifications under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959, are there any other laws or notifications related to arms other than firearms that are in force for Bangalore city. If yes please provide me one certified copy each of the same.

i asked for notifications in effect in Karnataka, not just bangalore city.

What are the exact answers they have given to these two questions?

They did not tell me what restrictions the central government had imposed though. What to do now?

Only one answer to two questions and vague replies by them. The powers under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 have been delegated by Center to the States but still no harm in doing RTI. You can do another RTI referring their response to your previous RTI and ask them to give you one copy each, of the restrictions imposed by Central government that are in force in Karnataka.

IMHO concealed carry laws are pretty shady in India. You might get arrested and if the cops in your area are good and he/she is in chilling mode that day, you might get off with an warning. It depends on the day too, here one of my friend was arrested for carrying 4 SIM cards and 2 cellphones with him (He was a cellphone repairman), it was before 15th of August so security was pretty tight. I suggest you not to carry anything even if you are pretty sure about it's legality. Also if you belong to the proper socio-economic class, I mean the one who drives a Swift and wears business suit, cops will let you pass without checking 99% of the times.

Goodboy- before i do that, aren't the restrictions imposed by the center public domain? Or is rti the only way to find out?
i mean there are things like blade lengths above 9 inches are illegal and so on,from where did people get this? Are these restrictions imposed by the center? You know the laws pretty well, have you come across something like this before?

Priyan-that's why we take the trouble to know the laws and stay out of jail. :agree:

Dear Skyman; It is what it is, however unfortunate the situation is with respect to Arms & The Right to Bear Arms. I absolutely agree with what Priyan has to say in the post above. I do recall reading the 9" restriction in the Arms Act which is available for dowload here I think.

Please do not carry large knives on person, it is only inviting trouble. A knife is not a deterrent like a pistol or a revolver.

Regards
Moin.

priyan and moin,

I don't want to carry a knife to gut some attacker.I want to carry it in case of some emergency, such as a car crash.
The same reason i carry a lighter- not to light a cigarette, but the capacity to make fire is invaluable in case of emergencies.I hold no illusions that i am bruce lee with a blade, as i might be dead even before i can draw.I might use it at the most against some rabid dog perhaps.Your concerns and advice is noted and appreciated.

Priyan....not that i want to know, but how on earth did you get into the hole for a night?

Moin..are knife laws covered there? i'll have a look but any idea where on the forum it was?

Thanks
