Dear tirpasion,
You think you are overweight at 70kg against 1.64 m ??? Holly Polly Guacca-molee !!! What do you say for someone who is almost 115kg against 1.84cm ? :banghead: All this when I am have set a goal to shed off 10 kg in next 3 months. I bet one day I shall hit 95 in shooting first - any bookies for the rookies ?

Dear hvji guruji,
No way am I going to attempt those Bloodsport-style finger pushups. Shall leave those for Jean-Claude and tirpassion. But thanks a ton for the warning nonetheless.

arre "dev" (not you pistolero - but the Bhagwan) - bhar-bhar ke denaa hi thaa toe $$$ detaa - Kgs kyon ? ROTFL

samaj gayaa mein yeh "prosperity" hai ek maayaa
mayaa toe kewal ek saayaa
saayaa bhi hoti hai nashwar
toe kyon nahi ghatataa yeh wajan - hey Ishwar ?

I raise the toast to 'Kavi' Agn!

Then I bet all my prosperity to 95 of AGN. 5 'tens' and 5 'nines' for sure

Thx tirpassion and Jitu.

Jitu - Baithe baithe jab ungaliyaan na chale toe bus dimaag hi chale. :-)
An old English saying, duly modified - "Empty mind is Poet's workshop." ;-)

tirpassion - you are quite good at maths :-) - it didn't strike me that I shall have to hit 5 10s for every 5 9s to get to 95! :-( Allrighty then - since both the targets are equi-distant and equi-tough, I guess I better get back to SA and that 5km walk/ day.

An old Chini saying, duly modified - "A journey of first 95 points begins with a good practice of SA followed by consistent and accurate SOA." ;-) Right guruji ?

Unbelievable!
Never thought that I could achieve 10 push-ups on finger tips at one go. Did it today and yelled YES!
I wonder how ignorant can one be of his physical abilities.

AGN your 95 points or more importantly 95000 gms :D is very much achievable.

Thanks Guruji for letting us know ourselves!

hvj1

Can you please provide guidelines on physical training and pre-shooting stretches to be performed by air rifle shooters.
Is stretching recommended before and after a PT session ? Do please elaborate. Thanks

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

I can run 5km on a treadmill in 45 mins most days. Sometimes it goes to 50 mins, last week I did 6km in one hour. My para friend snickered that that was NCC girls timing. :-) . I haven't done push ups for a while but can and am benching 46kilos. I do three sets of 25 reps...love the way that hurts.

Finger push ups have never been my friend but I will try to do some. The best part is that the weight hasn't moved any where it is still a good 97 or so kilos and I'm five ten. Don't have the cms with me. The only way to lose weight I guess will be if I eat less...but that is too much sacrifice. :D

What to say I am gathering courage from what you guys have achieved.

Regards,

Dev

Hello AGN & Dev
Hello friends,

I hope that you are aware of the BMI (Body Mass Index). It is calculated as follows.
Weight in kg / Square of the Height in meter
For AGN the BMI should be
115/ 1.84 x 1.84 = 34
For dev the BMI should be
97/ 1.78 x 1.78 = 30.6

The parameters are
* Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
* Overweight = 25–29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

I am afraid that both AGN and dev are in the highest category. It is high time to react friends. I beg to be excused if I have pointed it out so outrightly. If I have done so it is because I felt the need to do so out of concern. Please work on your food habits. Stop fried things and eating between meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). I understand that in India it is very difficult because of our culinary delicacies. I myself put on weight when I go to India for a few weeks.

take care

Dear dev,
A big nexus in eating habit is munching between meals. Unluckily we have so much of temptations all around us! Eat well during the meals but do not overeat. Take a lot of time to eat, enjoy the food with all your God gifted senses. Why should one only give undue privilege to the taste buds to enjoy the food? The visual, olfactory and tactile senses should also get their part :) . And for that a bit of time needs to be spared.
Human beings reach the satiety level after 20 minutes. So if you eat slowly your hunger will diminish at the end of 20 minutes.
The best idea will be to consult a dietician / nutritionist and more importantly STICK TO HIS/HER ADVICE.

I have given a lot of gyan. Well 'Gyan' increases when distributed, someone said :)
Believe me, I have started to react after a medical check-up opened my eyes. I do not wish it for you!

Take care of yourself! Then only you can take care of others, effectively!

hey tirpassion
you seem to be a health expert in addition to being a great shooter. i am 170cm tall and have a a weight which fluctuates between 70-72kg. so BMI seems to be borderline. need to get it under 70kg. have to run more i guess.
by the way none of you replied to my query about when should one graduate to a pcp. as you know i am shooting with a izh . but by any standards a good pcp is expensive so what is the expert opinion on when should one switch to one. any score/ or performance beyond which one can not continue with the present one

Dear Jitu,
I am absolutely not a health expert. A detailed medical check-up opened my eyes. And as you know, a little learning is a dangerous thing. So I am incapable of telling more than that.
Your BMI is very nice. It means that you are in your normal parameters. I still have to do more efforts.

I did not pronounce personally on the PCP because I am sure that you can achieve better scores with the IZY. There is no fault with the gun. But if your own self is hesitant, if you are uneasy with your IZY, you will (unluckily) always find faults with the gun.

Now let us come to the practical and to some extent the aesthetics of your gun.

Practical: there can be many interpretations; gun to heavy, nose heavy, problem of reaching the trigger, grip problems, problems with the natural alignment of SA etc. Let us say a general question of adaptability between the shooter and the gun. They are only valid when an expert validates the point after observing the shooter closely. In most cases the problems can be solved.

Aesthetics: I love the look of this gun and none else. Go for it! But do not buy a gun because others (champions) use the same and the GUN WILL MAKE ME A CHAMPION.

If I am telling you all these it is because I have experienced the same. I shot first with a FAS (Italian made) simple AP. Graduated to Steyr LP2 (club weapon), did good scores, wanted to do more, wanted my own in 2007. There the storyline is a bit different. I loved the looks of the Hämmerli AP40. But when I wanted to buy one, it was out of production and no one knew if it would be produced again by Walther after it bought Hämmerli. So being charmed by the Champions, I bought a LP-10. It is such a nice gun that as a beginner it makes you forget your work and gives you the obvious feeling that it will do all the work for you; no recoil etc. etc. In 2009, I sold it because the gun was too perfect for me or rather I was not perfect enough to understand/respect it. In the mean time the Hämmerli AP40 was produced again and I bought one.

My story is that I went for the gun I cherished (because of aesthetic reasons) from the beginning (inspite of a 3 years stint with another one) and I will stick to it.

The above are my personal viewpoints. Hope Guruji will also add on to help you in a better way.

best regards

hey tirpassion
i am certainly not upset or dissatisfied with my IZY. in fact i love it. afterall this the wpn which taught me shooting,so sorry if by any of my comments i gave this impression. i was asking about a pcp because i was told that the competitions in higher grade do no allow anything but a pcp. hence i was asking when does one have to switch to a pcp. i am very happy practicing with the IZY and today have reached 370 in my prac shoot with around 90% SA. so i am pretty excited to do better. just was afraid that i will improve and land up for a comp and may not be allowed due to absence of a pcp. hence the query. i will certainly not part with my IZY. it may be a great start wpn if any of my kids decide upon taking up this sport. so you can count me in dedicated IZY fans. no two points about it

I did not misunderstood you for sure Jitu. I was wondering why you put up the question. Thanks for clearing my doubts. But frankly, I am unaware of the rule that says only PCPs are allowed in competitions.

I believe that with a PCP you will only do better because you would have mastered before a not so easy weapon (physical adaptability).
i am very happy practicing with the IZY and today have reached 370 in my prac shoot with around 90% SA.
By the way, very good work jitu. :D Bravo!
