Any members game for a pheashant shoot in the USA?
Friends,
We discussed this briefly at the beginning of 2006 - it is getting to the time when we'll have to make our minds up if we want to do a -pheasant shoot here. All US members are welcome, of course, and so are members from India who could make it here. I could ask around and get some pricing if we have something to plan - so could Sharief, my good friend who has a lot more experience hunting in the US than I do - please let me know.
Those members who don;t have guns don't have to worry - they would be arranged here. We want this to be a fun event if it works out.
Cheers,
Mehul
PS An Indian-American member at Nitroexpress.com recently bought a beautiful new double rifle and I have invited him here. Those boys are doing a big game double rifle only hunt in Texas this month and he would be hunting in Africa next year. Hope he could join as well.

Please count me in. The first thing we have to decide is WHERE, then we should decide WHEN. Ideally, a good pheasant hunt is best in South Dakota, or so I hear, we can find a good farm from the hundereds there and go. I've never been there so I can't really recommend anything and I don't even know anyone who has been there. I would request anyone who has done this in South Dakota or knows someone who did, to comment.
Other than that, there are a couple of places here in Michigan that do "preserve" pheasant hunts which we can go to. Either way, I would not mind. I am game for about a five/six hour drive from home (Holland, Michigan).

I am in too. I will probably have to fly, since no place outside of the northeast would be within driving distance of me, but that is okay.
Also, once we have decided on a place, we will need to find information on hunting regulations in that State.
I think most (or all) states require hunting permits even on preserves. Or am I mistaken?

Gentlemen,
Sorry about this delay in responding. I would like your suggestions on this - I have a good friend in South Dakota, a very senior police officer who has kindly allowed me to shoot several of his double rifles and whom I could ask for help. Mark has also told me that he would research the possibilities from his side.
Sharief, buddy, please give us your suggestions - you have much more experience than I do on hunting in various parts of the USA.
Let us plan and organise this if possible. It would also be an opportunity for our better halves to meet.
Cheers,
Mehul

First thing we have to do is get a list of the people who are interested and find out how much they're willing to travel. I just found out that South Dakota is about an 8 hr drive from Chicago so about 12 hours total for me which I don't think I want to do. As far as flying, it will get too expensive as I already have a hunting trip in December that I've budgeted for. And forget about taking my shotgun on board, they'll shove it up my you know where before they'll let me fly.
I have two shotguns we can use for hunting, if someone is flying in and can't bring one, they can use mine.
BTW, I found this browsing thru the web. I'm sure there are more we can find...
http://www.deercreekhuntclub.com/
Its about 60 miles from Chicago, 100 from me. Dunno the prices yet.
Lets do this, lets start the list like so, and when we have it all, we can suggest/decide what will be good/agreable for most.
Name, current location, In/Out, Drive, Fly
Sharief, Holland Michigan, IN, Drive 5 hrs, Fly Please NO.

Most hunting seasons in most states start at the beginning of Fall (October). The "season" is mostly for public hunting areas owned/leased/arranged by the state and/or Federal Government, where most anyone who has a hunting license can hunt. There are quite a few "preserves" where you can hunt year round. These preserves or farms or whatever you call it are owned/leased/arranged by private individuals/companies and are somewhat exempt from State/Federal regulations.
I hope you find this informative. I know its not 100% defined but this is the way it is, each state has their own laws and so are bound to have differences.

Sharief,
I have no problem driving - if someone wants to meet up at Chicago and then drive to SD - 12 hour drives are what I revel in.
That said, Deer Creek does sound like a good idea - an hour away from Chicago.
Anyway, here goes - Mehul Kamdar, Des Plaines IL - ready to fly/drive anywhere in the USA.
Let's see who else responds.
Mehul
PS Any suggestions for the Northeast - in case our NE members feel like joining, or somewhere midway between the NE and the MW?

Gentlemen,
It does look like Sharief's suggestion of Deer Creek is the most practical one. I am more than happy to drive up from Chicago - and three more friends are welcome to join me in my little car.
Amit, glad to see you join, buddy. So it is now Sharief, you, Navdeep, Mark and me. Let us see who else joins.
Let us talk and find a way to make this happen.
Cheers,
Mehul

Recruiting our North East buddies !!!
Hey guys, how about trying North east Ohio so its not too bad of a drive from the Middle East , MidWest and from the guys in the North east US. I found this farm and I'm sure there are plenty others we can find with some effort.
http://www.elkhornlakehuntclub.com/ Check out the European Hunt at Elk Horn Lake. If we have 10 odd people, we can negotiate something.
Use this site to find other places in the US.

More ideas, keep them flowing.
