Some of the stuff seems interesting. Could you identify and give us some details both of the firearms and edged weapons?

Quite a collection,I be drooling to get my hands on this | Is it's black powder double hammer and built by "who" ?

I once drove in Chambal area and part of MP side called Bundalekhand and Morina , I saw quite a bit of collections there but those people were way too rich for me to ask any questions. Still it be good if you would individually mark and identify the antiques only , would appreciate - Haji

I would be glad to mark & identify each & every weapon once I get a chance to visit this place at their pooja time when all the weapons are out of the cellars. Some guns are used only for saluting. The're 12-15 long & very heavy. Blades are still used for goat & buffaloes sacrifice.

Any gun within 100 years needs a licence.
If the age of the weapon is above 100 years it must be registered with the
Registering Officer, Department of Archaeology, Area concerned.

Other wise the possession is illegal under the Arms Act, and Antiquities Act.
I have about 50 pieces all registered as antiquities.

Pandian.

Could you please elucidate more on this? or If this is already discussed please guide me to it.
*Does this mean that a firearm more that 100 years old does not need an arms licence or that it needs both, arms licence and registration with the archaeology department?

We have within our family at least three firearms AFAIK which are definitely more than a century old.

Thanks Terminator-X for :cpix: it is a rare delight, indeed.

Please read the definition of antiquity in Section 2(1)(a) of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972. Going by the definition of antiquity in The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, any weapon that is not less than one hundred years old is an antiquity. Going by Section 45(c) of Arms Act 1959, any weapon that is an antiquity is not covered under Arms Act 1959. Therefore no license is needed for any weapon("any weapon" includes firearms)that is an antiquity under Arms Act 1959. But cartridges if not less than hundred years old would require license since they would not be antiquity. Sections 14 and 25 of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 should also be of particular interest to those in possession of antiquities. Now this is new - Registering the old arm with Registering Officer, Department of Archaeology, Area concerned (can this be done without the need for a license?)

Whatever happened to Arms Act,1959 " 45: Act not to apply in certain cases.- Nothing in this Act shall apply to -
....(c) any weapon of an obsolete or of antiquarian value or in disrepair which is not capable of being used as a firearm either with or without repair;"

I guess above still hold true and is valid.

Never the less we all would be grateful to Pandian :) if you can share the registration process for collecatables as that way some of us can take up collections beyond 3 arms

If you can provide answer to the question how you were in possession of the firearm without arms license till the time it was less than one hundred years old.

Section 45(c) holds true and valid. It is because of Section 45(c) one is able to possess any weapon(it includes firearm) that is an antiquity without license. Section 2(1)(a) of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 is defining what is an antiquity. Section 45(c) is not some loophole or a mistake that has slipped into the law but it has been put due to valid legal reasons. In pursuance to the provisions of The Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 and the Antiquities and Art Treasures Rules, 1973 antiquities are required to be registered with the Registering Officer of your region. For contacting them you may refer this link of Archeological Survey of India http://asi.nic.in/asi_aboutus_organization_circle.asp
