Comtech Stinger & Other Impact Weapons

Gents, i've been reading abut the Comtech Stinger for a while now. Seems to be a wonderful little piece to EDC and if properly used can have devastating effect. Does any one EDC a Stinger ? Are these available anywhere in India ? Apart from the internet reviews, has anyone used one and is it really as goods as climed on the internet.

Secondly what does the law have to say about impact weapons in general like knuckle dusters, collapsible batons etc. I'm sure brass knuckle dusters are much stigmatized and looked down upon and the motive for carrying one can be questioned by the law. I've seen a few for sale in Chor Bazaar and some fancy chinese ones in Heera Panna.

What about collapsible batons, how practical are they. Can one be kept in the glove box of the car ?
I've seen cold steel products like the Brooklyn Smasher and the Sjambok for sale in Mumbai, but they don't seem too practical.

Please do share some gyaan on this, did'nt find any thread dedicated to impact weapons and hence this post. Not sure if this is the appropriate section to post, mods please do shift this to the correct section if required.

Moin forget the knuckle dusters. I had a few (guess I still have these somewhere) but never really carried these. Using is not without consequences and risk of injury to yourself.

I will go in anytime for a collapsible baton. It is easy to use (just practice a bit), can be concealed, does not look too suspicious and is not easy to figure out for what it is by people who do not know about it and not many do in India, the effect is devastating if properly used and most important of all gives you the much needed extra reach to stay away from the opponent. The psychological impact is a deterrent too.

Just be careful and use your discretion as to where and how and in which situation you use it if need be.

I own a Schrade as well as an ASP 26". Both are friction locking models.

If you decide to get one then go in for the friction lock, santoprene grips (rubber not foam) grips and the baton should be made out of steel and not aluminum(asp air weight) .

Thank you as always Rajat. Nice to have a non leathal weapon just as a force multiplier and as a last resort. I'm averse to carrying fixed blade knives. Firearms are out of the question.

Did'nt know schrade makes batons as well. I checked the prices on Amazon, very sweetly priced, the model you mentioned. I'm planning a trip to Saleh (he was expecting a consignment of Cold Steel Knives to be cleared from customs), will see if any good ones are available. Friction lock and made of steel is what I'll keep in mind.

I have the stinger, picked up from Alliance Martial Arts (thru a link in an older post on this forum). Two of them cost me $ 27.40 incl shipping. One is kept on the car key ring as EDC. Only issue with these is that if you need to keep the car key and the Stinger in the same fist, it becomes a tad uncomfortable for those (like me) with small hands. However, if you can keep the metal part of the key sticking out of the lower part of your fist (like a downward stabbing knife), it becomes another slashing weapon . I do have a 48" sjambok, but that is not really an EDC thing. I use it to keep strays away while walking the dog (the fact that he's a Rottweiler actually makes the sjambok only a showpiece!). Been looking for a longer reach option, collapsible baton sounds good.

Moin, I am also planning for Saleh and H&H this Sat (need a 4-5" folder for the car), will also check on the batons.

EssDee you don't need anything if you are walking around with a Rott. I had a rottweiler too, Ozzy. Was sired by a champion rottweiler from Grewal Kennels "Turbo Power". Had to give him away as he was getting too much to handle !. Did'nt know H&H stock knives as well !! Run of the mill Nieto's i would assume ?

Sorry for going OT, but, Moin & Doc, I got the Rott (he's called Jojo) neutered on advice from vet. He's a champ descendant too, daddy Indian champ called "Bronko von Hasen Hausen", Granpas intl champs. However, unlike popular opinion, Rotts are basically quite calm collected souls, unless you poke them. I took the baby (he's just 9 months, 38 kg) to a dog fair last weekend, he was probably the least excited dog around (barring a gigantic Great Dane, and another Rott). Even let total strangers pet him, except if the petting lasted for more than a minute or so, he'd make noises in his throat, which effectively put an end to the petting! Only got wild at the horses!! However, because most people cross the road rather than meet a Rottie face to face, I can't take him to most places. Hence the stinger, baton, etc.
Moin, H&H for pellets (dunno if they have knives, never been there!), Saleh for knives / baton. I got my Nieto, Vic, and sjambok from Saleh only. Just a suggestion, don't go to south Mumbai on this Sunday, chances are that you'll get stuck in the marathon. I am going Sat.
Lemme know if you get the baton.

How's the build quality of the ESP Batons ?

If its the original ESP then the baton should be Ok. Only problem is that the batons should be hardened otherwise they tend to bend / curve under heavy usage which is not needed unless in a situation where you really need to use it hard or if you are playing with it. The longer one that I see here is non hardened and its the shorter one which says "Hardened" and you definitely need more reach, leverage and clubbing power than the smaller one at Oliveplanet.

The build quality is excellent. You can google for reviews of the ESP batons. They are made in CZ. Agree with essdee about rotts. There are never bad dogs but bad owners. All a rott needs is proper socialization and a firm experienced hand.
