50 yards...put up a tennis ball and roll it over 8 times out of 10. i have been shooting for 40 years....am 60 now and dont use glasses....must be all the carrots!!!!!!

i am no hot shot with a gun. my hunting days with the big guns are over. its all about practise, a steady hand and very importantly with air rifles the right hold and of course a well tuned rifle.

the point here is the neccisity of scopes on airguns....we are not talking about what i can achieve or not out to 50 yards.

the choice is yours. to me out to 35 yards, i would not need use a scope.

we are also not talking about competion shooting where scopes are not permited anyways..

What I understand from Mercury is that he is a good experienced shooter in air gun with out scope, that is OK.

That doesn't mean that this is the best way to shoot an air gun.
If the distance is increasing or at Dusk and dawn you will find it very difficult to aim something at the size of a tennis ball, a scope with quality lens with maximum light transmission will definitely help.
Sometimes if you want to get rid of the gun, you have to pick the gun up.

you are right Rijo....i am expressing a point of view and that does not mean "....that this is the best way to shoot..."

the point being do we need a scope out to 35 yards when that is about the optimum accuracy for MOST airguns?

with pcps that shoot out accurately to 100 + yards...definately a scope. the other magnums that can shoot accurately to 75 yards ...yes.

shooting in low light; a scope is very helpful.

i would have diffuculty with any thing beyond 50 yards...so keep that as my optimum range. beyond that i would consider a scope.

aah Suffix your magic potion is drooling with sarcasm!!! i think besides the carrots i must have had some of the magic potion too.
Throw me to the wolves....I will return leading the pack.

Hey Guys!
> Scopes on ARs are embellishments - Wanna use them Go Ahead - Don't wanna use them - Choice is yours :)
> Beyound 35yds any target (match or Coke Can) looks small - Scopes comes handy & fun too.
> BTW - Once the scope is fixed & zeroed nobody wants to remove them to use open sights - right?
> Scope have become like Cell Phones - Everybody uses them - Landlines are getting obsolete - however there are die-hards who swear by Open Sights. :|
> Scopes are good during Low Light conditions - Helps better shot placements.
Cheers
