My Knives: update pic
Hi friends,
Thought of showing you all my knives (at least all I could get my hands on at the moment). I hope you like them.

My Knives
A very nice collection. Is the little guy in the middle a CRKT Ritter RSK? Very handy knife.
I like the way you have arranged them. Some look quite old and seem to have seen some action. Any stories linked to any of them??

Re: My Knives
Thanks Bruno, glad you liked them. Yes, the little one is the RSK MK5. Normally use to ride in the secret pocket of my wallet as I had my Urban pal on the key chain. Removed it from wallet as the lanyard I built on it turned out pretty sweet and makes the wallet bulky. I had a "thing" for knives since childhood and have been carrying them for years. The RSK was gifted by a friend who found it cheap without the survival tin in the shop near his hotel where he stayed for an office trip. I have asked him to get more next time to gift to my dad as a key chain knife.
Knives can't be without stories, but that some other time.

Wonderful collection discovershashank. Is that a Smith Wesson HRT Boot Knife. Love the Rampuris as well. I wish and hope your collection grows and grows and grows and you add some great knives this year 2012.

Re: My Knives
Thanks Moin bhai, essdee, olly & Abhi. Hopefully the collection is gonna grow more this year, I currently have 5 knives on the wish list which will be added soon, the boot knife is not an S&W HRT but a united cutlery combat commander, BTW the 3 inch blade S&W HRT boot knife is one of the five on the list. There is an HRT knife in the pic but its the HRT badge knife( one that looks like a claw). The khukri was a gift from MOM bought from some gift emporium in Kolkata, esplanet market(not sure I spelled the market name correct) as a return favor for leaving me in the middle of nowhere with all our luggage while they(Mom and wife) went shopping . More are on the way, will upload pics on the same thread.
I would also like to know how many of you have always carried a knife on you as I have not come across many who does so, if you do, have you faced any unwanted confrontation due to it? I have never been questioned abut a knife by a MAMU yet but I believe I can handle it.

Ya would second on you Bro, Kolkata is a heaven for guns & Blade lovers, I know places in kolkata where you will get any & near every kind of blade you may dream & desire & also at the cheapest rates, I have 50+ in my collection, hope that increases more with time. The only prob is carrying those out of kolkata

Re: My Knives
Ahbi, you can not be wrong on that because I got my 1st knife from Kolkata. Some of the cheap knives I got from Kolkata are on my favorite list, but they are still not the best ones when it comes to Quality, Had some better knives in past and that Quality is still the benchmark. BTW can you tell me any place other than Esplanet where you get knives??? And please also care to mention the variety of knives you got from Kolkata, quality of the blade and if any branded knife available at sane prices, I do not care about a brand name but a good quality. I admit that most of my knives are not on which I would rely my life on but few are, I am just looking to grow the usable section now and would appreciate any information you can share with me and fellow knife lovers.
P.S. I have equal love for folders and fix blades but would like source for folders in India as I am working on getting in Touch with a custom Fixed blade maker. I also heard there from my wifes relative that there is one knife maker in Kolkata. Would visit him and the places you recommend when I visit my wifes parents there.
Ribaalber, both the knives you mentioned are from.................Kolkata

Re: My Knives
I used to be based in Kolkata.
I have seen the road side vendors selling small knives, but those were all fakes. I bought a few and all were really well made.
I forgot the name of the foreign market.. where you get all electronics gadgets, cell phones and stuff..
I saw some nice Imported blades there.. Bought a good switch Blade, and a Meglite Torch once...
Saw a lot of good knives there..

Re: My Knives
I am a little scared to buy from the Kolkata street markets (except 2nd hand books), having had some bad experiences with shirts that lasted one washing and torches that got separated from the bulbs. Especially Esplanade and the lanes around it. But if you guys got branded / quality stuff, I'll sure make another try , whenever I am in Kolkata next. Riabaalber, by the foreign market you mean Fancy Market near Khidderpore docks? Waiting to see your collection!

Re: My Knives
Thanks essdee, ribaalber and gladiatorgarg, I am glad you guys are liking the collection, makes it some worth now . Even I am not to exited about knives from Kolkata as from past experience, 3 out of 5 knives would not be worth using, you need to look for the right ones, I got exited by looking at those knives the first time so bought some junk too, but some of my favorites are the ones from Kolkata. I am more into branded knives now but still would not miss a visit to the knife market to steal a deal anytime I am at Kolkata.
Wife is due for a trip to Kolkata this month, Hope to see some good ones coming, she has a good taste for knives and I feel lucky to have a wife who can appreciate blades. More Bengal blades on the way
