IOF.30-06 suitability to imported ammo??

Post by Armour » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:48 pm

Dear Members,
Frankly didn't know where this query belonged but since my rifle's at stake so thought of putting it here in 'Rifles'.
I wonder what will be the performance effect (if any at all) of firing imported ammo varying in makes, power, weight, types (SP,HP,FMJ) on my IOF .30-06 barrel?? Will the IOF .30-06 barrel withstand different ammo (make-weight-type) for different shoots & practices?? And how well?? What 'type' would be the best for 'zeroing' the rifle with scope & open sight??
How do you rate the suitability of these to an IOF .30-06?
1. SB-FMJ-11.7g-180grs
2. FC-Skived tip-Fusion-180grs
3. Winchester-CXP2-Power Point-150grs
4. Winchester-XP3-Supreme Elite-150grs

Your guidance will be of much help. Thanks & Regards.

If your rifle is able to fire IOF ammo safely, it certainly should have no problem firing any of the ammunition you have listed. All the ammo listed should have copper jacket lead bullets and unless your rifle barrel's steel is softer than copper, it should last you several lifetimes (considering the ammo quota).

Keep in mind you should expect to see a different POI for the 150 gr bullets vs the 180 gr bullets (at the ranges that rifles are generally used). If you zero in at 100 yards with one type of ammo, try and keep using the same type if you would like to keep the POI constant. Personally, since the gun cannot be used for hunting, I would use the loading with the lighter bullet for a slightly flatter trajectory.
