Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Olly,
I have semi floated the barrel. The only impediment is the band holding the rear sight. Secondly changed the scope to a Redfield from my older Bushnell.
I feel this is what led to better accuracy.
The only thing left for me is to raise the cheek piece to a proper line of sight. Am working on a new stock.
If scoped, the ideal distance at zero ought to be 182m/200yds.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
OK...
Are you going to try to modify the existing stock or changing it altogether ?
I'd love to try something on the existing stock but the hollow interior throws the challenge...

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Am making an altogether new stock from some walnut wood somebody gave me. I am planning to have it cut on a Vertical Milling Machine and finishing it by hand. The idea is to retain the original design of the sauer202 but with my own measurements.
Where I'm stuck presently is the fact that I need to run the design through a computer program in 3D and feed the same in the machine. My first attempt wasn't too good. I'm now looking for someone else to do this job.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
There are many members on this forum who own IOF 30-06 rifle, going by their experience this rifle seems to be one of the best products of IOF and very accurate. Read somewhere on this forum that someone won national level shooting competition with this rifle.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Carbine,
Try and locate someone in your area who has one, get him to show it to you and talk with him about all aspects of this rifle, including the positive. I say this because everyone wants a firearm that is perfect straight from the box. In reality this is never the case.
The rifle is made in Ishapore and the stock I believe is made by some 'charpoy' maker (I was told about this by someone and hope its not true, although going by is quality it could well be ) but to us it doesn't matter where it has been made, since one purchases it from a dealer, not the factory. What matters is what you can do with it.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
can the paint on the metal parts be removed and the rifle be blued ? because the paint n the stock r responsible for its cheap looks.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
I've lately had a problem with my rifle. The extractor claw broke! How that came about is a matter of conjuncture. I was using Partizan ammunition for the first time so I decided to load the magazine and check seating of the cartridge in the chamber and then extract them. All three fed into the chamber and extracted well. Loaded up once again and fired off one shot. The shot went of well and hit the intended spot on the target plate. While opening the bolt I felt it to be a bit light so I looked around for the extracted shell but could not find it. My immediate react was that it was a hang fire but I had followed up my shot and clearly saw the penetration hole in the target. So I did the obvious; removed the bolt and examined it. Thats when I saw the broken claw. The shell was still in the chamber. I tried looking around for the broken part but could not find it.
Effectively, my rifle became a single shot now! However, I have decided not to use it till such time that I have it repaired.
I have now four choices to get it going,
1. I try to fashion it myself, including heat treating it. I could do this and learn a bit of gunsmithing!
2. Pass it on to an armourer and hope for the best. Save costs in the process.
3. Write to IOF and really hope that they will respond and sell me an extra claw, spring and clamping sleeve.
4. Get an entire bolt assembly and/ or parts from abroad. This is a costly affair and time consuming affair but at the end of the day could be gratifying.
If some knows how to open up the bolt, please let me know. Mack The Knife?

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Respected yograj singh ji,
Regards
broken bolt could be a nightmare for any of the gun owner , and i feel sorry for it . Since the expertise of your good self in maintaining the guns and the knowledge to do`s and don`s is extra explanatory . i must say that broken and repaired bolt is like a person having bye pass operation already done.
So if you go for a new bolt altogather there are chances of it being not fully fit in your gun and you have to go through the lapping and polishing all by yourself as you have done in past.
in the first picture you can see the marks of milling on the bolt nose and they are more deep then desired... this may have exposed the inner latch of the extractor to the walls of the inner chamber of the gun or a line on heat treated part can also cause the stress build up on the particular point.
the iof has recently acquired many state of the art machines but the tendency to work is same "sarkaari - take it easy " attitude.
in my opinion the iof should be notified and chances are that they can replace it and may be they can let you pic up and select from their stock....... , going for imported one is risky as the part may be detained at customs or the price you will be paying will be a costly affair...
the local gun smith can do it but i am afraid they can be able to make the sharp edge of the notch properly that engages the empty shell when tis pulled backward....
rest you are the better judge...
let me know how you rectified the problem.

If they replace it,great ! else your best bet would be Bobby Sidhu in Patiala...he is the only person who will be able to fix it and the only person I would trust.Katana wrote:Have notified the General Manager, Rifle Factory Ishapore about this on Feb.1st. alongwith photographs.
