Recently I bought a 3-9 x 40 rifle scope from China. It went in my luggage and I didn't face any problems with it. Landed at Delhi and it went through the scanner without customs chap even inquiring about it.

Scope should not be mounted on the gun or packed or presented along with the gun. If it is mounted on the gun or packed or presented along with the gun, you will face problems with customs. If the scope is not mounted on the gun and is packed and presented seperately, then customs do not have problem.

No one would question or stop you for your scope. Just remove from the packing and wrap it inside your jacket or Denims.

Above statement is just being optimistic. I have never been stopped for bringing Scopes

Also leave it in the corner of your suitcase. It would reach home safe :)

When the scope is not mounted on the gun, then it is considered as just an optical instrument by the customs. Therefore if the scope is not mounted on gun, no legal issues while bringing it in.
