Hello Friends,
Nice to read the interactions amongst fraternity members :D . However, one simple advice to new comers, kindly ease off on the technical advice, unless until you have shot a score of 560/600 at the national level in A.P. (This however does not apply to Dev) Why the special dispensation to Dev alone? That is because in very rare cases, some shooters are good at advicing novices or club level junior shooters, considering their mental maturity and attitude, even though they are yet to attain the technical performance stated above.
I am now ready to take questions, one at a time.
Best Regards to all.

ssshhh - Guruji's back !!! The class begins... :-)

Dear Guruji, Have already posted the Qs - basically what tickles me the most is "Would the fluctuation of 40-50fps in AP affect the accuracy, i.e. the point of impact at 10m ?"

shooterz wrote:Excellent advice Dev. Airguns are great training for firearms. If you really don't like airguns, you probably wont like firearms. Quick question: do you have a limit on the amount of ammo you can shoot or possess in a year? Thanks in advance. Troy
Hi Troy,

Yes we have severe limitations on our annual ammo limit(licensed firearm). This only changes when you shoot the minimum qualifying score at the Nationals, specially in the case of firearms. Once you are declared a renowned shot then you are allowed to import a firearms of the discipline that you have shot the MQS in. You can import 15,000 cartridges but I have been told that you still have to jump thru a few hoops and tackle the paper work.

Dear Amarinder - Please step out of the meditative state and check the messages posted - mine for you starts with "The cheapest that you can find is the IHP .177 - not competition level gun..."

Which AP do you have - now that's news. IZH Baikal 46m is among the best competition and the cheapest APs you can put hands on. Any other Indian will not shoot even the mandatory 10m - even my American Marksman 1010 does not. If you have confidence in yourself, why lose focus of your objective - i.e. to become a champ in < 1yr and settle at some lower rung ?

Dev,

Thank you for the reply. It makes so much more sense to me now that I know that. So basically you have to prove yourself on a National level to have the right to get more ammo or better suited guns. Now I see why in so many posts guys are talking about different scores and why they are so important. Very interesting, and a lot of pressure on a new shooter that wants to progress in the game. My advice to new shooters that have limitaion on ammo is to dry fire if your gun will handle it. On the topic of MQS, what is the distance and how many rounds do you fire in what positions? I would love to incorporate that in my students training here in the US. And is an IOF revolver really about $1100 US? Thank you Dev. Troy

The shooting that this thread is dedicated to is strictly ISSF Olympic air pistol. The distance is ten meters and one shoots off hand. You fire 60 pellets thru an hour and 45 minutes, and every pellet has the potential to earn you ten points and so the total score would be 600. Shooting 565/570 scores puts you in the international league (I may be wrong here by a few points).

And yes the IOFB pistol and revolver are both hawked at insane prices. Wish Sturm Ruger or S&W or Glock or Beretta would get their toes in.

Warm Regards,

Dev

Wow that is amazing to know, so I think my investment on the LP 10 is pretty justified. Now to find the time to train.

Now now Dev, that's like picking up salt with burnt fingers or is it the other way round at "jale hua pe namak..."
hvji Guruji - Yessir - thanks for the clarification. At least now, I can motivate myself that the 9s I get were actually meant to be 10s...and the 10s, well, were also 10s by the more accurately "fpsed" pellets. ;-). On a more serious note, I shall now endeavor to (b)reach the 90% mark first and then revert with progress.

Dev,
Thank you for the information. Sorry to all, I did not realize that this thread was for ISSF only. I read the heading "tips on pistol shooting" and honestly thought it applied to all pistols. I have read much of what everyone here has writen on ISSF, and your postings are spot on. I will have to get the Baikal IZH-46M and learn 10 meter discipline. My readings state that that gun is safe to dry fire, and I think that is vital to getting good at the sport. I also wish the Indian people had the access to the many brands and calibers we enjoy in the US. Believe me, we don't take that for granted. There is definately a market in India for quality firearms, one of the manufacturers needs to step up to the plate. I will talk more on this post when I have my Izzy.
Be well, Troy

Arre Sahib,

No such intention, just mentioning it as I had to really go through a load of pain to acquire it. Firstly with the useless bank for the transfer, then with the factory who 'zen shut for ze holidays till well after ze new year'. Plus the Delhi postal customs who sat on it for a month. Then they decided to 'help a shooter' by making me run around for five days. This is after having club membership and NRAI registered shooter id card. ROTFL Toh bhai achar toh hum hi bane na!

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.
