I came accros a riffle made in Austria Cal .270 nice riflle and have found that its bullets r similar like .30 but they r little bit slim and short from front and from back they r loaded with heavy Gr
what would be the cost of that riflle pls advise if some came across

hi kenny before buying gun make sure of supply of ammunation of rifle and its cartridges are more similar to 7mm than 30-06.i advise you to go for a regular bore like 30-06,7mm,8mm,.22 etc so that you might not face difficulty in getting ammo in future the dealer who is selling fun might give some ammo at purchase and might promise to deliver in future but before buying you should check availablty of ammo from dealers.you can get their nos in yellow pages of forum across the country and if you have decided to buy then its not more then 60000 thanks

Kenny: .270 is a necked down .30-'06 cartridge. It is larger than 6.5mm and smaller than 7mm, but closer to 7mm. It shoots a lighter bullet, usually 130 or 150 grains, faster than a .30-'06, and flatter. It is somewhat more suitable for longer range shooting and was once quite popular out in the USA West for hunting, where it fine for most anything, though one may wish for something more powerful for Grizzly or in thick brush at short range. Although most modern hunters have gone to the 7mm Remington Magnum, the .270 is still quite popular. I have one myself, and like it.

The .270 Winchester cartridge is fine cartridge and it works great on deer size game. It shoots flatter than the .30-06, packs enough punch on medium and some large sized thin skinned game (Elk) and has modest recoil to boot.

However, if you look at it from an Indian point of view. There is one main consideration. Can you get ammunition on a regular basis for this rifle? If yes, Congratulations! You will not be sorry for your purchase. If the answer is no, don't waste your time. Look for a good .30-06 as you will be assured of a steady supply of ammo. There is absolutely no point in spending a large amount of your hard earned money on something that will only be good as a wall hanging in a few years time.

Remember also that all you will be doing with it is punching paper since hunting is illegal in India. For that you need something that you can readily find ammo for.

Yes i understand that for .270 the ammo is not easly availble here but there r some imported from usa made by Fiochi but its realy hard to find more over from ur all info and suggestion i wil be more interested in .30
i really thank you and i have bought .22 Brno 2 but not yet in my hand as ihave to take off my 315 IOF rillfe just gave to a dealer to keep in his stock but want to sell it its model 81 only fired not more than 30 rounds i can post pics later in one or 2 days

It is incorrect that 270 ammo is not easily available in India, many dealers stock it and the price is from Rs 120 onwards per round.

This is as good a round for 300 meter big bore shooting as many others like the 30-06 or 8 mm and even the 308 Winchester.

Timmy has said everything rather concisely. The .270 Winchester was and is still a popular rifle caliber in India. Ammunition is fairly easily available and should not be a problem to procure it even if your regular dealer does not stock it. You can ask him to get it for you because the rest he can always sell off.

I own this rifle myself, it was gifted to my grand father Sub. Pritam Singh 1st Patiala Regement, who was coach to milkha singh, by maharaja patiala when he broke the india record in 400M event. its a winchester made Model 54 number 10440 made in US, as far as ammo is concerned it is easily available in delhi and Chandigarh, for around Rs 115 to Rs 150/-
