Re: number of guns???
In India as per the Arms act, you can have a maximum of three weapons of any type. It may be a) shotgun + handgun+ rifle b) three rifles or shotguns or three handguns of your choice .If you are an a Life member of a NRAI approved rifle club, you can have more than three and as per latest rule amendments,you are allowed to have a small cache of preferred choice of target category guns.

Re: number of guns???
Surajshuresh it would be better if you ask your Licensing Authority (LA) whether they will allow you more than one shotgun or not. Arms act may say that you can keep three weapons of your choice but normally LA do not permit it. What they allow is one handgun+one shotgun+one rifle. I belong to Ferozpur district of Punjab and this pattern is strictly followed here. I myself own three firearms of this combinatoin on my license.Although I have heard of licenses having more than one handgun registered on them but yet I haven't seen one so can't say how far that is true.
P.S. Which state due you belong to ?

Re: number of guns???
As the Arms Act 1959 stands today, you can have a maximum of three weapons in any combination. There are exceptions to this three firearm limit under certain conditions.
It is all because of the ignorance of people who blindly follow what is being told to them. How many people have approached Hight Court for the same? Arms are fundamental right under Articles 19 and 21 of Constitution of India, Arms Act 1959 is a law to regulate this fundamental right. BTW even this three firearm limit is unconstitutional.Arms act may say that you can keep three weapons of your choice but normally LA do not permit it. What they allow is one handgun+one shotgun+one rifle. I belong to Ferozpur district of Punjab and this pattern is strictly followed here.

Re: number of guns???
Hi suraj, thats me in the avatar . You should go through the legal section, most of the laws have already been discussed in quite a bit of detail.
veeveear, I am aware of the renowned shot situation, I just wanted to know if you were talking of any other notification/law that may have recently come about.
This topic has been discussed to some extent earlier in the legal section in the NRAI membership thread(and maybe elsewhere). As far as the "cache" goes, in addition to the 3 firearms allowed per person plus the .22 Rifle for Rifle club members, and additional (upto) 6 firearms may be endorsed on person who is recognized as a renowned shot(the total number of firearms not exceeding 10), where he will be allowed to have up to 2 firearms in each category in which he is competing. For example if he is participating in Trap/Skeet events then he may be allowed 2 shotguns , if he is also participating in big bore rifle events then he may be also allowed 2 rifles of the kind.
So in a renowned shot situation where he is also a Rifle club member: optimistically he can have 10 firearms;
3 firearms + .22 rifle as NRAI/Rifle club member+ 2 Shotguns+2 Big bore Rifles+2 Pistols in a combination as required, that is if instead of 2 big bore rifles or pistols he wants small bore rifles etc.
So this I guess this "cache" so to speak, will no doubt have mostly target guns not particularly the best for self defense.
Also my license has two handguns and a rifle on it, so its flexible as far as the type of firearms on a license are concerned. Generally as long as its justified there may not be problem in getting for example two shotguns or 3 rifles etc.
Regards,
Anand
