What is carbine ?

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

I'll explain it in layman's term "any firearm that is not a handgun ,accepts magazines and has a semi-automatic firing system is banned in india for civilians be it in PB or NPB bore"
You haven't lived until you have been close to death, for those who fight life has a different flavor that the protected will never know.

The question still remails
what is a carbine issued on license in India.
and in layman's term I don't want to refer to dictionery nor Arms Act. Neither any thing about PB and NPB,
it is a fact people have licesed carbine here in India.
One more time what is it ?

Regards.

Not only laymen but also the soldiers and officers of Indian Army, and the Indian Ordnance Factories call it as carbine.

"Carbine" on license in India would mean what the word carbine is supposed to mean i.e. short barreled rifle.

If the license is issued by MHA and it says "carbine" only, then the license holder can buy any of the following:
1) PB/ NPB automatic carbine(it includes the one shown in picture in my previous post above)
2) PB/ NPB semi automatic carbine
3) PB/ NPB bolt action, single shot etc. carbine

If the license is issued issued by DM etc. and it says "carbine" only, then the license holder can buy NPB bolt action, single shot etc. carbine. If he buys PB/ NPB automatic carbine or PB/ NPB semi automatic carbine or PB bolt action, single shot etc. carbine, he cannot be prosecuted under Arms Act 1959 for the ambiguity or lack of specific description like "NPB carbine" mentioned on the license by DM. But the moment MHA comes to know about this, it may send a letter to DM to cancel the license and get the carbine deposited.

Rajveer, it seems as if you want to ask a question but you are not getting the right words for it.
Do you want to ask "Which firearm is referred to as carbine in India"
If so, then it is the .30 caliber M1 carbine made in USA. If someone in India says that he owns a carbine then 9 out of 10 times he would mean the M1 carbine. They are present here in reasonable numbers just as M1 Garand are. Here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_carbine
Hope you won't need medical attention now

You can buy one from a license holder or gun shop, so long as you have the appropriate license... Plenty of them around, with few takers as getting a license for one is next to impossible for anyone except for VVIPs and/ or a few transfer of heirloom cases.

Rajveer you just check the cart of carbine rifle if it is 9mm then it is totally illegal & if it is 30 bore & semi automatic then also it is prohibited but if it is 30 bore & converted into single shot & issued on army vocher that it is bolt action now it can be entered into NPB license. Basically its illegal because very few are allotted & many carbines are entered into NPB licenses. So remember its India & everythong is possible

No type of firearm is illegal or "totally illegal" if you have license for that type of firearm.

Does Sterling SMG falls in Carbine category in India? I hope there's a category named submachine gun here.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?
