Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
hey guys
after a long lay off have restarted shooting. took part in a local level competetion . the range was make shift and space ill adjusted. each time i would take up position to shoot the rifle shooter next to me would get her barrel in front of my eyes. in gen a very haphazardly organised competition. even the targets kept next to us flew away when somebody put on a fan. anyway took my shoot. faired poorly as expected. just 324. but atleast crossed the 80 mark. so now to start proper SA and fig 8s to reach 90s and beyond. the joke is no body else crossed even 300 in AP. chalo atleast have begun. hvj when u return your shishya would again seek your guidance

The thing is that shooting is a mind game, you expected to do badly and so did so. Don't mean to berate you but just dry fire for two days of the week, do sixty or even more. Hold a bottle or a dumb bell up for twenty seconds, and do about ten sets of this. Watch how easily you hit the 360/400 again, I have learn't through expensive losses that one has to practice at least three to four days a week to improve. Oh you need to live fire only once or so a week if time is a constraint. I didn't do more than 40 live shots practice for the Delhi State but I still improved. Just break it down to the basics and you'll get better. So crank it up a notch buddy.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hey Jitu,
Thanks for sharing and hats off to you, Jitu, for your humility to accept things as they are. Quite understandable that the performance would dip without regular 'touch'.
All,
I tried at home yesterday after a prolonged period - guess what ? The second set took a dip as usual. Didn't go for 3rd-4th sets after that. I have this problem - rather should call it "flaw" on account of its consistency - my mid two (2nd and 3rd) sets take a dive to low 80s (<=83). Another funny incident though - tried it on an open terrace about couple of weeks back. Bright sunshine, balmy breeze and target almost on the floor level. Shot 3 pellets in a go from 10m - all hit #10 ring ! This queer thing's also consistent. When I want to be shooting for points the pellet finds every ring in the black but seldom the #10.
Anyway looks like at Mumbai-Pune we have to wait till Nov 22nd for Nationals etc. to get over before some action will start. Saw the thread on IFG @ Ahmedabad but that's too much of travel for a few hours of fun.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Not sure if this one should be under the thread but posted it here since it pertains to AP shooting from "sporting" angle. Mods, kindly excuse if wrongly posted and request you to kindly index under the right one.
A quick set of questions on pellet brand, accuracy, fps and their mutual relationship -
I happened to be with a few friends who were testing out their newly tuned AGs on an open terrace. Since a chrono was going to be handy, I carried my AP (FWB P34) too. That's when "seriously" enough I shot 3 and all of them found the #10. But that's not quite the point.
Then I shot 15 pellets just to get my "fps reading", since the AP had recently been looked at, leakage flaws finally identified and then supposedly dealt with. Pellets used were P-10 from the stables of GSmith of Pune. The chrono (one with two parachute-like antenna sets) recorded readings from 431 through 470s. Many recorded around 460 fps.
Assuming that the chrono was OK and the AP shoots say 50+ pellets from 150 to just under 100 bars,
Q1. Is this fluctuation of ~40 fps acceptable for a match level AP ?
Q2. Will it impact accuracy ? (Remember that 430 < fps < 480 at all times)
Q3. Would the P-10s from the same batch (tin) have differing weights to affect the fps ?
Q4. Should I be really concerned or continue to use it as it is since am still a novice AP shooter ?
Thank you all in advance for the guidance and pointers.

Good Luck, bro. May the results appear as per your desire - but earlier than anticipated.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Airgun Novice it would be better to shoot with a non-leaking pistol as you eliminate one error factor. Yes the pellets do vary from tin to tin. Gsmiths have been quite decent for practice, you could almost shoot a match with them if you pistol handles them well.
Does the 40 fps variation put pellets in different places or is there just a difference in the way that it is tearing the paper. If it still groups well then it doesn't or shouldn't matter but I don't know for sure as I haven't faced this hassle.
Have your air pistol fixed as it is just a matter of repairing the seals.

dev
