Re: Infantry rifle
Puru, tenders have been part of the process since quiet some time. It is not a recent phenomenon.
About your link, it is OK either way. Media does not tell you the truth everytime. Trust me on that as I have been (and to a certain extent still am) part of that game.

There is a bullpup offered in 7.62 X 51. It is the Keltec RFB.zombie wrote:
Although a bull-pup with 7.62mm x 39 round would be pretty interesting.

Re: Infantry rifle
It is generally understood that the FAL is a beast to control in full auto. However, that might be just a matter of training. Here are some examples of a FAL being fired in full auto. Still, these are the exceptions rather than the rule.

I would love to build a FAL one day. I know that full-auto ain't going to happen but I'm more than willing to settle for a semi-auto version. It is a big beast of a rifle, certainly not suited for close quarters battle but I don't have any plans to engage in CQB . Still it has proven itself all over the globe, in every kind of condition but the biggest draw for me is that I saw soldiers carrying it around when I was growing up. To me it has always been what a battle rifle should be.

Those guys FAL make it as easy as firing a Uzi.
I guess it needs to be seen by Indian Army personal.

Re: Infantry rifle
@puru baruah,zombie i'll answer a few of your queries
1)why no more tavor order's??
->the firm that makes it that is IMI has been blacklisted due to corruption charges. As of now further order's have been called off.
2)army not happy with tavor??
->i dont think so ,it is a lovely weapon even the MARCOS have it now.
3)9mm is useless,5.56 has no punch??
->target dictates the weapon, weapon dictates the movement- for its job in CQB 9mm is a very good round,SF shooting doctrine is very different ,in CQB only headshots and otherwise headshots or shots to the centre of mass(chest)
4)priyan -"reloading is a problem in bullpup configuration"??
-absolutely not,all SF around the world are taught tactical reload it is a very fast method.Blink of an eye fast.
5)we should use the 6.8mm SPC??
->this is a round in which barrett has developed a weapon not used much by the american SF,same goes for the 6.5mm grendel though their .50 beowulf round in AR setup is being used in iraq.for indians as of now 5.56,7.62 short are good enough.
also a piece of advice-MoA,Two Rivers are very senior members and have great experience shooting all types of arms
try to learn from them.

Isn't that what the Trichy assault rifle is; a FAL Para (SLR) in 7.62X39?winnie_the_pooh wrote:Timmy,
What would you say to an FN FAL in 7.62x39? As an armchair warrior this cartridge appeals to me.
As far as the bastardized SLR made by the IOF is concerned,it was not licensed and more over it consisted of a hodge podge of parts in both inch and metric.
I believe Cottage Cheese was the first to point that out.
.... but, I think the Chinese beat Trichy to it. Its not in 7.62x39 but....

Re: Infantry rifle
This seems to be the most definitive picture I can find:
This picture isn't particularly informative. The receiver does have a resemblance externally to the FN, but the press releases seem to be a confusing jumble of information regarding the design. So whether the Trichy uses a rotating bolt like an AK or a tipping bolt like an FN, I cannot say. Maybe someone has handled one. If one were to design a whole new rifle, it certainly would be possible to make up a shorter, lighter action for the less-powerful 5.56 or 7.62x39 rounds (relative to the 7.62x51) that operates along FN principles.
But as the question asked about "an FN FAL in 7.62x39", I felt that the premise was based on the SLR action, not a whole new action based on FN designs.

Re: Infantry rifle
the AK-47 definately the best infantry rifle, the AK-47 is more than just a "slight" modification of the StG-44. it is also performs well.

Re: Infantry rifle
I didn't say 9mm is useless. Of course it is a great round for CQB engagements, but lacks the punch at medium ranges. Since we are discussing line units as well, we should keep in mind CQB as well as open area engagements. Hence my siding with 7.62mm x 39 round.boris wrote: 3)9mm is useless,5.56 has no punch??
Of course. I didn't mean any disrespect. I was just trying to have a healthy discussion.boris wrote:

BTW blacklisting of IMI was very recent. Concerns with Tavor were raised much earlier.
