Interesting to note that rahul567 has used both TNT and Royal Mail.

rahul567, did TNT took care of customs clearance or you had to run arounf yourself?

Askign this because if you run around yourself then you take leave from office and burn petrol, which again is money so how much will be teh savings depends upon from case to case. Also this saves you good amount of headache...

TNT delivers to your door.

They do the customs clearance for you. All you have to do is pay them the duty and their clearing charges in cash.

Thanks for the info.
Paying them the duty I understand. Thats fair enough.
Does anyone have an idea, how much TNT charges for doing customs clearance for you.

Now I have a new blues. Following folks have denied sending IZH-46M
1) Argun Depot (http://www.airgundepot.com) - They do not ship internationally.
2) Pilkington (www.pilkguns.com) - They do not send to India.
3) Blackpool Air Rifles (www.airgunbuyer.com) - They do not deal in IZH-46M

I remember that some one on the forum mentioned other online stores. I will try them out and post necessary details.

Rahul,

Many portals do not ship outside US and/or UK etc. Your best bet is www.mac1airgun.com. He also offers the best price.

Given below is the mail from Pilkguns confirming shipping to India....

Depends on what item you want shipped. If you are interested in an IZH47M air pistol, the cost is $52 shipping by express mail and includes $300 insurance. If you want something more expensive, add $1.50 for each $100 beyond $300. For instance a $1000 gun will cost an extra $10.50 for the extra insurance and the total would be $62.50.

Subject: Want to buy IZH-46M Online

Hello,

I am from India and member of egroup “India For Guns (IFG)” http://indiansforguns.com
I am practicing 10m pistol shooting and want to buy a personal weapon for practicing more.
I have zeroed in on IZH-46M as the pistol to begin with.
I have following queries
1) If go for IZH-46M then what parts come along with the with the pistol, I mean
- Sights
- Cleaning Kit
- etc.
2) Which case/carry bag I should go for so that I can
- Store and carry my pistol, pellets, target paper to range and back home
3) Can I pay by Creadit Card (Can pay through AMEX)
4) I have heard that TNT courier service also takes care of customs clearance in India, is that true?
Sincerely,
Rahul K

rahul567,

Congrats on getting your gun...
It would be of great help if you can tell -
1) Which gun did you order?
2) Which store did you order it from?
3) What were the TNT charges for shipment and custom clearance?
4) How much customs duty you had to pay?
5) Are you member of NRAI or any other state/district rifle association?
6) What documents did you submit to get your gun cleared?

Friends,

I did study some models and have narrowed down following models
Please note that I have taken
1 £ = 85.57 INR
1 $ = 44.19

Rohm Twinmaster Top
==============
Cost - £309.00 (INR 26,441)
IF - £25.50 (INR 2,182)
CIF - £334.50 (INR 28,623)
Duty - INR 10,591 (@37% of CIF)
In Hand Cost - INR 39,214 (CIF + Duty)

Weihrauch HW75
===========
Cost - £229.00 (INR 19,596)
IF - £25.50 (INR 2,182)
CIF - £254.50 (INR 21,778)
Duty - INR 8,058 (@37% of CIF)
In Hand Cost - INR 29,835 (CIF + Duty)

Weihrauch HW40 PCA
==============
Cost - £92.95 (INR 7,954)
IF - £25.50 (INR 2,182)
CIF - £118.45 (INR 10,136)
Duty - INR 3,750 (@37% of CIF)
In Hand Cost - INR 13,886 (CIF + Duty)

Gamo Compact
==========
Cost - £139.95 (INR 11,976)
IF - £25.50 (INR 2,182)
CIF - £165.45 (INR 14,158)
Duty - INR 5,238 (@37% of CIF)
In Hand Cost - INR 19,396 (CIF + Duty)

IZH-46M
======
Cost - $295.00 (INR 13,036)
IF - $70.00 (INR 3,093)
CIF - $365.00 (INR 16,129)
Duty - INR 5,968 (@37% of CIF)
In Hand Cost - INR 22,097 (CIF + Duty)

I believe that that following guns will not invite any duty at all as the CIF is below INR 25,000
1) IZH-46M
2) Gamo Compact
3) Weihrauch HW75
4) Weihrauch HW40 PCA

Royal Mail is the postal service of UK. It is cheaper and will deliver through Postal Customs in India. Postal Customs in India will inform the recipient about the arrival of the goods and ask him to visit the post office and get it cleared after payment of duty ( if applicable).

TNT is a courier service. It is costly but will deliver to the customer directly after completing the customs formalities including payment of duty ( if applicable). The recipient needs to pay TNT the duty and other charges in cash.

Royal Mail service is often slow in delivering but that is not always the case. Delivery time usually depends upon the nature of items ordered. I once received a book sent through Royal Mail ( privately) from UK in three days.

The courier company might charge you for other services in addition to the delivery which in this case is the completion of customs formalities regarding payment of duty.

Vikram,

I assume that by ' post', you mean 'courier' also.

It is allowed and treated in the same way as import by courier. The deciding factor is the customs authorities being convinced about the value declared and not who is the shipper ( i.e an individual vs an entity ). This situation is dealt by customs in the following manner as per The Courier Imports Regulation 87/98 (formerly known as 35/95)

1) The consignment is classified under "Gifts & Samples" up to the value of Indian Rupees 10,000/-

The Courier Imports Regulations permit Duty Free clearance of Gifts and Samples valued up to Indian Rupees 10,000/-

The value limit of Rs: 10,000/- should be the ACTUAL MARKET VALUE OF THE SHIPMENT i.e. the price at which the goods would be sold in the market place. Customs reserve the right to adjudicate correct market values and, in such cases, Duty would be levied on the shipments regardless of the value declared by the Shipper.Shipments are opened and checked at random during customs clearance. Shipments may be required to be detained at customs for further paperwork or valuation purposes. Here I would strongly advice all members to include the original invoice irrespective of its age for a hassle free clearance.

2) The consignment is classfied under " Other Shipments"

The above classification means (a) Gifts & Samples valued at above Rs. 10000/- and (b) Items which are not Gifts & Samples.

Here again, the deciding factor for clearance will be the customs officer being convinced about the fairness of the value evident from the documents contained with the shipment and consequently, my earlier advice holds. These items are cleared after payment of duty only after each and every item is opened and inspected.

NOTE:-- For valuation, customs will consider the CIF value only. Where values are declared on an FOB ( free on board) basis (or nothing declared), 20% towards Freight Cost and 1.125% towards insurance cost is added to the value declared, to arrive at the CIF cost. If no vlaue is declared, customs will use the information at their disposal to arrive at the fair value.

Where values are declared on a C&F basis, 1.125% Insurance Cost is added to the C&F Value to arrive at the CIF Cost.

In addition to the above, for all import shipments, 1% of the CIF value is added towards Landing Charges. All assessments are done on the CIF Cost Plus 1% Landing Charges.
