As far as my opinion and experience is concerned, stinger is a fairly accurate cartridge for game even for some mid size game hunting. Although .22lr( may be any brand or grain or velocity) has negligible knock down power more important is the placement of shot, and so accuracy is important. my early experience with stinger was very bad when the bullet use to have single ring for bearing the barrel but later they added another ring and hence increasing the bearing surface and stability to bullet.

Stinger is very good round but my preference is always:
Any high velocity Solid round(super speed or minimag)
or secondly remington Yellow jacket which anytime I prefer over Stinger. But due to unavailability of later I miss shooting with yellow jacket
If any of the members can suggest me where In India I can find remington yellow jacket I will be more than delighted to buy a good number of them.
Thanks

being a full time brick and mortar type, my ballistics were associated with an early exposure to arc, BC, cannelure and ogive etc.Ace_doc wrote:it seems we are always at logger heads . accuracy as in " match" grade as opposed to more "punch" while hunting ?eljefe wrote:suggesting accuracy is not so important for hunting? suggest you reframe prioritiesAce_doc wrote:...the stinger is better employed as a hunting cart.
either u do not keep abreast of ur ballistics or u have some prob with my posts. it is documented that a hyper velocity .22 lr cart has a degree of inaccuracy as opposed to subsonic carts which are more accurate. most match grade ammo has its velocity kept well below the mach speeds.there is something on the net called wikipedia , i suggest u try out .22lr search on it . they have a complete and informative section on the cart.
happy reading.
Ballistics meant the good old sierra handbook, start with 10% less and make the umpteen trudges to see how the group goes .
Hard to be a virtual ballistician , even more suspect with wiki being the source...
From personal experience-A stinger /yellowjacket is most times HYPE and and I've used them in every thing from an AR7 to mossberg SA, to Martini s, brno and browning 2pc auto.prefer a good target type like Fiochhi or eley tenex for game. The only times I preferred a hypervel round was the one in the chamber of my ppk/s to kick off the festivities in the 'self defense mode' -the rest of the mag is a decent 40 grn solid.

Re: CCI Stinger in IOF.22LR
due to higher twist rate in IOF .22, the lighter stinger bullet at 32 grains is not as accurate as other standard velocity ammo.
