Basic Air Rifle maintenance

Post by ak27 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 1:17 pm

hello all,
i am happy to say that i received an IHP35 .22 Air Rifle 4 days ago.

Previously i have owned only Airsoft pistols and kolkata-make air rifles and never actually 'maintained' them. Yesterday, to my disappointment i have found out that the barrel, trigger and other metal components of the rifle are developing rust on them :( .

So, can you AirGun pros please suggest how i can clean the barrel and the rifle body, lubricate the internal components(without tearing apart the rifle) etc. Thank You!

Rusting is an inherent problem to all guns. I dont have idea of how to remove the rust already formed, may be use a thinner or something.

However to prevent, just see the top of the page, a company called Ballistols advt is there. Just order a couple of 50 ml bottles of Ballistol oil and be in peace for quite some time.

An excellent post by Mack The Knife - http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?t=1319 (it's a sticky post in the "gun care & gunsmithing" section here)

Another post by a member quoting from BB Pelletier's blog - http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4853

HTH

Cheers!

I believe it should be a bit older stock (since the IHP factory is closed) and the rifle was not properly greased when stored.

Try industrial area, the hardware shop in those area will have it, you wont get in normal oil or hardware store. Its commonly used in heavy machinery, so chances of getting it there is more.
Try justdial.com, search for silicon oil in that, it will give some lead, it worked for me in finding one in noida :D

That was my question too. I read through Mack The Knife's post but could not find any mention of silicone oil.

Silicone is extensively used in fabric coloring applications, not getting the clue of use of that in a springer.

Silicone oil is used in cleaning and lubing the barrel. Silicone cloth is fine cloth used for gun-wiping.
