hi a motorcycle chain or a bicycle chain and anything that is attached by a chain or rope are not good weapons for defence as you do not have control on them once you have swong at some speed and missed target it will hit back to who is holding it but if it keeps hitting target then its a very handy weapon and for that one has to learn how to use it like in martial arts its similar to 3 sticks non chowk so i if you intend to use you have to learn martial arts and thats teaches how to control if it misses and doest hurt you on reswing thanks

Club members in the USA often wore chrome plated chain belts. These belts had a quick release buckle and came in 3 styles: Indian Chief, Sportster, and Big Twin, as the belt was made of chain meant for the primary drive of each of these bikes. Here's some pictures.

Indian Chief primary chain, 4 rows:

Harley Davidson primary chains, Sportster on the right and Big Twin on the left. For perspective, the Indian Chief and Sportster chains are the same link size, but the Chief is 4 rows wide, while the Sportster is 3 rows wide. The Big Twin chain is of a much larger pitch, but only 2 rows wide.

Bikers would wrap these around their fists like iron knuckles or use them like whips -- windshields of cars were favorite targets for this. Local laws often demanded that these "belts" go through at least two loops in order for them to be considered a clothing accessory, rather than a dangerous weapon, so it was common practice to only thread them through the last two belt loops.

It is my guess that these chains must be against some law, because I have not seen new ones advertised for sale for many many years -- as in decades. The ones for sale on eBay are all sold as used, so someone must be making a penny by buying up old ones and reselling them.

A chain belt is a fairly ineffective weapon. There is a saying that goes along the lines of do not bring a knife to a gun fight.
