M1 Garand

Post by vivekpeter » Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi fellow IFG members,

My dad owns an M1 Garand rifle. Its a grand old piece, and i want to restore it fully to its original state. It is missing its bayonet and clip. Is it possible to get the same in India?

Regards,
Vivek

How would you use a Garand without a clip?

You can buy Garand en-bloc clips from here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MAG2450-1.html.

A package of 10 clips costs $19.95
You should be able to have it shipped to India with no issues. They are just parts.

A bayonet on the other hand might be a whole different story. Existing laws in India might not allow you to import them.

Existing laws in India might not allow you to import them.
Bayonets do not appear to be in restricted category of EXIM Policy. They appear to be in free category. Hence it does not appear there should be any problem except paying some duty if applicable. Reference http://www.eximguru.com/hs-codes/9307-S ... S-AND.aspx

Hello guys,

Thank you for your replies!

@ashokgodara - The rifle is in excellent condition and the only parts missing are the bayonet and the clip. It fires single shots finger fed. The semi mechanism has been disabled in it, but I need the clip so that I can make the gun 'whole'...
I l soon post some pictures of it.
Also can you please let me know at which shop they are sold in, because I should not be having any trouble traveling and procuring the same.

@xl_target - thanks for the link sir. I would be ordering the same soon.

@goodboy_mentor - sir, i just want to make sure that it is absolutely legal to import clips. Can you please share your advise on the same?

Thanking you guys once again for your very prompt and just replies!

Regards,
Vivek

If you refer http://www.eximguru.com/hs-codes/9305-P ... ICLES.aspx it says policy for 93052900 is free but subject to conditions as per notifications of MHA. If we use the process of elimination, the most likely exim code for charger clips would be 93052900. But to be on the safer side, it is not clear if the code 93052900 also stands for charger clips and what are the conditions in MHA notifications. You may start by doing an RTI with customs to know the exim code for charger clips and the import policy details for the same. Or if someone has gone through the experience of importing charger clips, he may also be able to provide some relevant information.

hi vivekpeter kindly visit your local gun dealer for chargers surely they can arrange if they want but you should have good contacts with the dealer.there are only few dealers who trades on m1garand.there are many dealer who will even refuse to deposit m1 for safe custody they says it falls under p bore category and if they will deposit the weapon they will do under repair work only i dont understand why dealers are so afraid of these NSP weapons.if you are restoring it restore to its original condition i means from single feed to semiauto.i dont know of your state but in my state i have seen m1garand firing in semi auto mode.kindly discuss with your local authorties and senior members of forum that will it will be wise to change the weapon's working from single fire to semi which infact originally is a semi auto weapon delibratly changed to single action by blocking the gas port of weapon thanks

A Garand castrated is a sin.

Wish I could get one for that price now.

Hi ashok,

My dad bought it from some person who had retired from the military, and the other person is no more now. Anyways, I am still on the look out for the clips. If there is any dealer in India who owns the M1 garand clip, please let me know, I l get it myself personally.

Thanks for your reply.

Vivek
