I'd guess he's asking about an 1906 Springfield or Enfield M1917. Probably the latter, since these seem to be more common in India. Nothing like being specific.

What are the differences between a model 1906 & 1917 manufactured by Remington for
.30-06. It will be helpful if my gun gurus can throw some light regarding their pros & cons if any.

Whtas an 'army model'? Can you be specific with the nomenclature of the weapon and its calibre?

Think before you buy.......In most places NSP weapons are no more endorsed on your personal Arms Licence. In Dellhi for example you cannot buy and get it endorsed on ur licence. It is supposed to be army property and has to be returned back to them.So for all practical purposes it worth nothing.
Please check before you buy my information could be wrong also .

dear pradyumna the rifle made by springfield armory in 1903 for US army is known as m1903.it was chambered for 30 caliber 220 grains round nose bullet and was given for field test.a minor changes were made to rifle but the outstanding change was adoptation of 150 grains pointed nose bullet in 1906 thats why the famous 30/06 came into being.many models were made with minor diffrences like m1903A1,A2,A3,A4.where A4 was refered to sniper rifle like that.M1917 was originally designed in england and contracts were placed in US to manufacture these rifle.the idea was to replace smle with these rifles with adoptation of some sort of rimless round.but with world war coming ahead britain dropped the rimless round idea to avoid complication of ammo supply and ordered the rifles in standard 303 rimmed cartridges.these rifles have 5 grooves insteed of 4.when america entered 1st world war and supply of m1903 fell short they turned to US major rifle makers remington, winchester and eddystone who were making rifles for britain they were ordered to alter m1914 or p14(pattern14) to accept government round m1906.all necesorry altration were made including change of barrel.thats why the rifle is commonly known as m1917 Enfield thanks

Thanks a lot Ashok Bhai. BTW one of my friend is having a .30-06 rifle by Remington with sl.no. as
1906-2212. The friendly local A/A dealer is of the view that the rifle is 105 years old ( my friend does not know its year of manufacture ) & can fetch maximum 75000 if sold.

If it is a Springfield M1903 built by Remington, it was built during WWII, production starting on November 12, 1941; after machinery from Rock Island Arsenal had been transferred.
The Springfield M1903M2, incidentally, is not a rifle. It is the barrelled action fitted with adaptors to fit into a cannon barrel. It is a subcaliber training device.

hi pradumna the remington was alloted serial nos from 3000000 onwords for m1903 rifle production fro where serial no you mentioned comes i dont know.the rifle two rivers mensioned then it would be bearing marks M1903A2 kindly check it.Artillery, tank guns and anti-tank weapons training used very expensive ammunition and required extremely large ranges for obvious safety reasons. By using a "sub-caliber" device in the cannon to fire rifle caliber ammunition, training could be conducted on regular rifle ranges available at most Army posts. This was essentially a standard rifle action bolted into an adapter to fit into the cannon barrel. Around 1935-1940, an estimated 1,000 Model 1903 rifles had the stock assembly and front and rear sights removed, and the trigger staked in place, and were designated Rifle, Model 1903A2, to be kept specifically for sub-caliber use. Some were marked with the "A2" marking, but not all. By the end of WW2, the sub-caliber use was abandoned and most of the Model 1903A2 rifles were rebuilt into regular service rifles. Most were later rebuilt and issued as standard infantry rifles cheers
