Having similar type of firearms
Dear IFGians,
I have heard that an Indian citizen can have three arm licenses on his name. Wondering if one can have similar type of arms on his licenses. Say suppose if I have a revolver endorsed on my license and want to get another handgun (small arm) on the second license. Do you gentlemen think its possible? Kindly shed some light.
Thanks

Re: Having similar type of firearms
There is no combination of firearms that is defined by the Arms Act,AFAIK.All three can be of the same type.
Also, refer to the Act.

You always need a separate licence for each firearm. The 3 licences may be entered in the same book or in different booksrraju2805 wrote:In kolkata you need separate licence for each firearm..

Re: Having similar type of firearms
Some states/ city police allow two or three weapons to be entered in one licence. Some states/ city police, Kolkata Police for example, allow only one weapon to be entered in one licence.
The law does not have any restriction on type or weapon (pistol/ revolver/ shotgun/ rifle) to be possessed by a licence holder at a time. Neither is there any restriction on caliber or bore up to the third licence. The fourth licence, if allowed by the local administration, has to be for a .22 weapon. Again even in this case there is no restriction on type of weapon - it can be a .22 handgun or a .22 rifle.
But, and this is important. all this is what the law says. The administration / bureaucracy practices the law. And, this is where words like permission, dismissal, discrimination, favours, privilege and harassment come in.
Hope this helps

Re: Having similar type of firearms
Hi, I have the same as Sahil.
TC,As for the fourth firearm, it has to be a .22 rifle as mentioned in the Arms Law, and not pistol or revolver. How the authorities go about practicing and enforcing the law is ofcourse known to us all.
