good to see improved packaging in plastic. The finish leaves a lot to be desired.
And they still havent gotten around to mentioning bullet weight and velocity.

These cartridges are manufactures on the new plant which Ordanance Factory imported and installed very recently.

First time seen MRP....must have escaped your attention earlier..all ammunition manufactured by IOF carries the MRP.The practice has been there since the last three four years now.

I have used a few boxes of these. Performance is very decent - apart from a few occasional fliers. All in all a decent enough medium velocity round, but the pricing (as is usual with all IOF products) is unreasonably high... blame the monopoly!

BTW, the rumours of an imported plant are just that - rumours. I have yet to come across any evidence to support this claim. Besides, this is hardly high tech stuff... .22 LR has been in production for more than a century, not quite cutting edge, eh??!!

14 Euros for a box of 50? Those are Eley Tenex or Lapua Xact prices... ridiculous.

14 Euros for a box of 50?

:agree: I still dont get it. Why on earth does it cost so much. i mean its a govt. factory. Indian labour rates. No money spent on advertising, none on packaging and finishing. I am not aware of the IOF factories making profit for the govt. Whats happening to all the profit they should be making selling arms at the price they do.

i never go for expensive stuff like tenex etc. just the cheaper end ammo.(even tried thunderbolt once  ). Even the dirt cheap ammo will allow one to shoot 2 inch groups at 50-70 yards. I am sure this ammo can do better than that.

And before everyone jumps at me saying its 4 MOA etc, let me tell you its good enough for me as I can still get a head shot on those bunnies.

Some years back Ammunition Factory, Khadki had issued a Global Tender Notice in Times of India, Mumbai edition for Eley type .22LR ammo manufacturing plant. I myself had read this advt, but now I don't have a copy.

What happened thereafter only our member art_collector has the knowledge, since he has been attending meetings at the factory, held between dealers and OFB.

As pointed out the price is unreasonable,to sat the least, but in my neck of the woods even if MRP is printed the dealer charges whatever he likes(sellers market) :deadhorse:

Folks,

My friend who used to work on the production line used to tell me the plant in India was the same one as the one used to produce Eleys.

An SK magazine used at the club which is bulk packed (after CD and ST), F.O.B. works out to about INR 5.50 and it beats the one available here.

Will let you know when the new consignment comes in the exact price though not for sale. We can compare price verses performance and feel......

Regards........ Shankar.

Eley type .22LR ammo manufacturing plant

I dont understand. Is Eley manufacturing plant different from say CCI manufacturing plant or a remington plant?

Eley does use more stringent QC than CCI or Remington, at least for their match grade stuff. However each .22 weapon seems to like a particular brand of ammo. Mine seems to prefer Midas over Tenex. Havent tried the Xact ammo yet.
Though most of what I shoot is CCI std velocity or subsonics.

IOF gets a plant from Eley.Does this mean that they will automatically start producing the same quality ammo? So if I get a Formula 1 car will I become a Race Car Driver?
