Importing a Vepr 7.62x39mm
Hello.
I'm new to the gun world and I just had a brief encounter with a lot of guns while I visited my in-laws in Russia. My father-in-law being a Colonel (ret.) took me to one of the spetsnaz bases and i fired all kinds of guns. I loved it.
Now, he has a few guns himself and they were retirement gifts which he isn't too keen on using. He said i could take his unused Vepr 7.62x39mm hunting rifle along with a scope. My question is, is there anyway to import such a weapon into india. he will of course fulfil all legalities from his end, do i stand a chance here in india?
Please do not post your willingness to commit illegal acts on IFG.It is not only discouraged here but it is a crime according to Indian Laws. You will also be bringing the legitimate shooting fraternity into disrepute.-Moderator.
cheers.

hello spetsnaz although there is a legal way to import a weapon, in your case 7.62x39 is a Prohibited Bore calibre if you dont know what a Prohibited Bore is, please do a search on the forum..
Maybe you would like to join senhor Kalmadi?? he seems to know a lot about it.
cheers

You have to first be a licence holder of a Non Prohibited Bore Weapon which I very much doubt since you are not even aware of PB and NPB anyway.. you then have to have owned the weapon which you intend to import for at least one and a half years abroad. Other options are : You could join the diplomatic corps which in your case dosent seem to be too difficult as you are young and seem to be a smart kid. you could then import a firearm as per the above system. Also you could become a Renouned Shot which means being one of the top 20 shooters in a shooting sport at the national level
Cheers

You will be taking on an almost impossible task since 7.62 * 39 is a caliber associated with the infamous AK-47.

The Vepr itself is little more than a bullpup AK.saleem wrote:You will be taking on an almost impossible task since 7.62 * 39 is a caliber associated with the infamous AK-47.

At first I was like this guy too. When I was reading about American gun laws (Just after Virginia Tech) I thought India may have very less laws regarding guns like every other laws when compared to USA but soon I woke up from that dream lol
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Hello Mr. Moderator,
As i see it, I'm not committing any illegal act here. I'm just inquiring about about and if there is a procedure which lets you import legally purchased guns into India. I'm just seeking advice.
Since our government is so good at maintaining websites which informs people on such laws, I had to float this query here.
