Rifle or ShotGun.
hi friends, i need a favor from u all, on my arm license i have permission for two weapons, one either a revolver or a pistol for which i have gotten a "Smith and Wesson .32 long, model 31-1(3 inch barrel) revolver" and secondly either a rifle or a gun. now the confusion is the secondary part..... i am confused about weather to go for a good pump action shotgun or a rifle.
i would love to hear from you guys what would you prefer and why, also please suggest the brand and bore which u feel is good. for example a Remington for a shotgun or a Winchester 30 06 for a rifle.
all your comments and suggestion are highly appreciated.
i am attaching a pic of my s&w cuz m sure we all love the sight of a nice gun

Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
Your S&W 31-1 is a very nice acquisition, especially with the 3" barrel, which I like. Thanks for posting the picture!
Regarding your question, can you give an idea about what you'd like to do with the second gun, or what your interests are? For instance, if you are shooting at a club, perhaps a shotgun would be useful, or perhaps you have a particular like?
Nice pump shotguns might be a Winchester 97 (famous John Browning design) or Winchester 12 (a much loved and preferred pump). A more modern alternative might be the Remington 870.
As far as rifles are concerned, what people like could fill many pages on a gun forum. The older Winchester Model 70 is much liked as a bolt gun, but there are many others that are nice to choose from, as well.
In other words, if you could give us an idea of what your intended use for the second gun is, or what your interests are, a more definite suggestion would be possible.

Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
thanks for the appreciation and sorry for the late reply(was out of country).
about my interest and my usage for the second gun is still a mystery for me as well, at this point of time i had this opportunity to add another weapon to my license so i did that. i still can get another gun or rifle on my license if i want , but i m sticking to just one big weapon. most probably it's gonna sit on my wall with a lock on its bullet exit chamber.
i don think i will ever go to kill some animal with it, so hunting is out of proportion, but i want a good lookin weapon which should come in handy for safety n showoff as well. n ya i may join some shooting club but only as once a month activity.
n thanks again for sending me the names of guns, i would love to hear one of ur personal Favorite in a gun and a rifle. thanks Tim.

Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
Why don't you buy both ?
In India we are allowed to buy three weapons on a license. You already have a revolver so you can buy a shotgun and a rifle.
In shotgun you can buy Modern's o/u. Priced around 35k it's a decent looking gun. Many members here own this gun. In rifle you can buy IOF .30_06 and get cosmetic changes done by a good gunsmith and then there are imported stuff available as suggested by timmy

Get a hockey butt made, saw off the barrels of the shotgun, put a red dot scope on it, chrome plate the barrel.
Looks badass and good showoff.
You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
someone i know had the iof .32 revolver, he shot like 30 something bullets in some marriage n cuz of the heat or donno what went wrong, the barrel of the gun deformed like a lump or swollen. n i ve heard this happening to others as well when they shoot their guns with more than 20 bullets in one instance. i guess some r lucky some r not, i don wanna take a chance with crap IOF.MoA wrote:Swollen barrels? Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
The Indian Army has been armed by the IOF (earlier 7.62 mm SLRs, now INSAS and its variants). Our country's armed forces fought five major wars with the small arms produced by the IOF. The IOF certainly has the capability, but it lacks the will and initiative to make weapons with good finish; that's were it falls behind. Small arms manufacturing is certainly not rocket technology, many of the fancy foreign brands are nothing but cottage industry.itheemperor80 wrote:someone i know had the iof .32 revolver, he shot like 30 something bullets in some marriage n cuz of the heat or donno what went wrong, the barrel of the gun deformed like a lump or swollen. n i ve heard this happening to others as well when they shoot their guns with more than 20 bullets in one instance. i guess some r lucky some r not, i don wanna take a chance with crap IOF.MoA wrote:Swollen barrels? Re: Rifle or ShotGun.
A barrel bulge typically will occur when there is an obstruction. And that can occur in any weapon. Shooting 20-30 cartridges will not do it, unless there was a squib, but that typically would lead to catastrophic failure.

I have several favourites for various purposes. I like the K31 but you cant get it, ditto for the STGW 57, ditto for the Vz 58, same again for the 6 BR, again for the MP5 so on and so forth. The choices available to me, are not quite available to you.itheemperor80 wrote:ok guys, my bad, lets not go off topic, i really want ur help with ur personal fav type of weapon n why u prefer it. thanks
