My Visit to India...

Post by timmy » Fri Jul 22, 2011 11:25 am

IFG Brothers: Quite some time ago, when I joined IFG, I got into a discussion with some of you regarding an itinerary of a visit to India. Many of you contributed suggestions to my ideal of a 6 month visit, where I'd spend 1 month based in 6 different areas. And, I've discussed my wish to do this with some of you privately.

However, I have come to one firm decision regarding my proposed visit: When I come, I will most assuredly visit Chennai at the very end -- I will go there last.

I fear that if I went to Chennai first, I know I would have to go to see Alarmel Valli dance Pandanallur Bharatanatyam, and that's as far as I'd ever get. So I need to save that part for last.

I saw her dance almost two years ago here -- including Lament for a Fallen Warrior -- and I'm still moved by it. So beautiful!

Timmy,

The places I would recommend

Drive to Leh ( then fly back), Orchha, Khajuraho, Mandu ( do see this place),Bhopal to see Sanchi and Bhimbekhta, Diu, Port Blair,Lakshwadeep if you like diving,Aurangabad to see Daulatabad fort ,Ajanta.Ellora and a poor copy of the Taj Mahal Bibi Ka Makbara and do see the Auragabad caves as not many go there,Hyderabad and do visit the Golcunda fort.

The North Eastern part of the country is not visited by foreign tourists generally which is a pity.

The northeastern have a lot of transport problems . Siliguri is the only entrance of NE . Only one railway line & NH 31 connect NE with the whole country. Guwahati is the only one internation airport of NE . Manipur , Mizoram & some part of Arunachals are forbidden for foreign tourists...
