big bore event and services team

Post by kuwar » Sun Jul 17, 2011 2:54 am

As far as i know 300m big bore event is not a olympic competition.

Do we have anyone from the services here in our forum , isnt it true that at nationals big bore event is mainly dominated by services.
I may be wrong also, want to know which weapon these guy use, dont think they will have access to fancy looking guns ( here I am Refering to MATCH GRADE SINGLE SHOT rifles I just hate the look of them). whether they also get into the Monkey suit to compete in this catagory.
pls help out as I intend to compete in this catagory

Regards,
Kuwar.

300 M has not been an Olympic event for ages.

ISSF yes. Most shooters use the 6 BR, dedicated prupose built rifles that are single shot. [Dont know the scene in India]

You also have BR @300 and the likes of the Swiss match which uses unmodified mil spec rifles, or simillar rifles with specific diopters et al in different categories.

I do sometimes compete in 300 m BR with a 6BR or the swiss match with a K31 in 7.5 Swiss or an STGW 57 in 7.5 swiss as well. It is fun.

Never took up ISSF since my BP is way too high to hold steady in off hand.

Thankx MoA and subal das,
What I want to know is what kind of rifle the services team use in big bore/full bore, AFAS I know they dominate nationals. by going through few posts I learnt that few of them even WON gold using IOF 3006.
Do services have sophisticated rifles and imported ammo at their disposal. Which is out of imagination.

Kuwar,

I used to participate in big bore 8-9 years ago, the AMU (army marksmanship unit) shooters then were using .308 Tanner single shot target rifle with Lapua match ammo. Wonder why you think the service do not have access to these rifles & ammo. I think one of the army shooter got a 594/600 with his tanner..
