Moin, hope you managed the 10th anniversary discounts being given by Skoda currently. Anyway, all the best!

Joined in late on this thread, only to make a point, as i'm not an auto buff.

I just hope that those who are going ga ga on Toyota's "legendary" reliability, have based their opinions AFTER the recent unpleasant Toyota product recalls in the US, I hope.....related to accidents caused by poor construction

MOIN ...
you are from mumbai right......!you are cosidering petrol version as i guess.......
about your dilemma...it is always a sure happening for a average users like us....! as far as my concern ,when i am going to bring a new car...i would defentily consider...., engine refinement, drivablity, build quality, peace of mind, and value for money,
lets discuss , 1 ,engine refinment.
as skoda fabia new version..its a 3 cylinder unit which is capable for producing maximum power 0f 70 BHP.
and always remind that...it is the new trend that chopping out of a cylinder from conventional four cylinder system for acquiring better fuel efficiency....Of course its a good move....none of the car maker has acieved the oldre refinement level of 4 cylinder unit.... but what we are missing out is the engine refinement...s l;ay man language...you will feel like a silky smooth sound & less in vibration..Have you driven old skoda fabia..????.then only you can feel the difference of the engine behaviour....
BUT the toyota etios coming with 4 cylinder unit ..& as per overdrive test drive it is one of the very refined engine unit avilable in india.......+ it is more powerful than skoda fabia...80 bhp so fun factor will be more....!
+ engine warrenty upto 1 lakh kms...no manufacturer in this range is dare to give this offer...!
2, drivabilty.
its all depend upon engine power ,torque + gear box system of the vehicle her also etios liva score my point....as it has best torque values..... gear box of both cars area lmost equivalent in quality in my point of view...... but skoda have slight edge.....due to its already tested Build Quality ...and Quality of journey..is almost OK in two of the cars.....suspension setup to be tiredand reviewed...then only can able to tell.....(user reviews will be helpful)
3,
Build Quality,
here skoda scores over Etios. liva...it doesn't mean ...but Toyota is BAD... skoda making every car to build to last.....! and Toyota too also almost following the same policy except in etios serious...... ! there are some evident grey quality material /cost cutting in the critical are like, dash borad, door panels,,etc....!but doesn't matter it is way better than the materials used buy marutis..& hyundai.....! as a city user you will not face any rattling problems over a period of time.......( my Esteem has faced this problem.....after seven years of use.... but now changed over to a used Hyundai accent....no problem whatsoever....truly my kind of car)
4,Peace of mind....
If you take my word.....Don't go for Skoda....!!!!!?????..unless you have some relatives in the skoda after sales network....their service network rated below average buy almost every car magazine, forums like TEAM BHP...lots of mal practises...lack of sound persons...cramp it would become a nigh mare if i was....!

Toyota....ditto opposite.......of skoda.....they are having a policy it seems ...! whatever i heard about this is positive....& they are listening to customers thou.feed back programmes......so its up to you.....!

Value for money....
Here too Etois liva scores....
Skoda petrol middle variant (ambient) on road price will fall @6.lakh...!in this you will not get any ABS,EBD, air bags (skoda too have as default i don't know why not a ABS as default...in place of Air bag) Alloys music systems....( forget about spoiler,skirting...) but the LIVA HAS allllllllll.at his price ...with a slight difference may be +/- 10k....! i am suggesting you to go for the safety features irrespective of the vehicle....because these all are life savers...!+ LIVA offers an outstanding fuel Efficiency..compared with skoda Fabia....17.5 kmpl ARAI certification means.....15+in city and 20+ in highways.....very impressive figures......

so decision is yours...my friend......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Moin nothing can compare with Jazz ( petrol) if you have made your mind , Fabia will be very costly to maintain . Even normal service will cost a lot . After sale maintenance is the highest for Skoda cars. Secondly the actual reduced car price which works out for Jazz is around 80k , rest will be offered as complimentary insurance and others.

The reduction in Jazz has happened because of the upcoming Honda car called "Brio" . Brio and Jazz will share the same power-train. Another car that is going to be launched in couple of weaks is the all new Swift. The new swift will be longer, wider and bigger in every aspect from the outgoing model. Maruti has already started the production of the new Swift since 5th July from it's Manesar plant. It is going to be a killer.

VW polo which shares a lot with Fabia as Vw is the parent company of Skoda. They are being manufacture on the same assembly line , in the same plant. Since Fabia is now an old model , I feel it will not prove to be a wise decision to go in for a car which has already has completed it's life , is quite costly to maintain and last but not the least " It has a poor resale value". These are some plain facts, although I might sound harsh but are very true.

Regards.

Ranjith; Thanks so much for the detailed response. Strangley inspite of all the Skoda bashing on the BHP forums and otherwise, I've spoken to a lot of Laura, Fabia and Octavio owners. All of them, and I mean all of them only had good things to say. Not a single owner complained of servicing problems or expensive spare parts. I've got the spare part price list, dok,t seem as expensive as made out to be. Also the warranty on the negine gear box et al is actulayy more than Toyota, 4 years or 1 lac kilometers which ever is earlier. Alos the feautures that I'm getting in the Ambients the same in the Liva are costing a LAC more. Thanks for such a detaiiled response. Best Moin.

Thank You Grewal. I will definatley have a look at the Jazz if the prices have really dropped. It's so damn spacious compared to anyother htchback, though it's difficul to beleive the prices have dropped so much. I'l visit a Honda dealership in Mumbai soon.

Best Regards
