i have used it many times got hooked when i had my first shave at an old barber who used to shave my father!
there is a thrill of cold thrill ans a chill running down your spine!it is quite romantic ! the almost religiously preparing hot water ,hot napkin ,round shaving soap, animal hair shaving brush ,the strop , the big piece of alum and the sharp shiny razor itself!

i lost the original German i had bought in shifting .now have to make do with a low quality one!

these old romantic things cannot be replaced by todays electronic razors( heard the burn the skin too?),foam shave cream, aftershaves in various effeminate fragrances (we had old spice classic mark of a man) splash ons ,skin protection gels, sun protection lotions with spf ? i really miss those old days!

You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Re: Just wondering does anyone use a straight razor?
I do use it at times, when I have the time to use. it takes a bit of time for me to shave with the straight razor and have got nicks quite a few times.
I had found one in my house.I don't remember why I tried to use it and how I learnt to use. But i enjoy using it and many of my friends are surprised to see me use it.
Edit- What I use is not a straight razor, but a shavette.

Any Idea where I will be able to source some straight razors in India, even old ones would do. Good quality ones online cost a bomb.

The days of shared straight razors in barber's saloons are over.
You can get
1. Hepatitis B
2. Hepatitis C
3. HIV/AIDS
4. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
5. Assorted bacterial infections
Many of the above are incurable AND fatal. Cheaper to buy brand new modern razors for personal use only than to spend hefty amounts on treatment of the above diseases.
And yes - shaving at Tirupati scares the shit out of me.
I have used an electric shaver for the last 30 years. I sometimes read this forum while shaving because it needs no water and no mirror and only one hand.
