Re: Bulet (motorcycle) chain belt
I was from Mumbai, now Bangalore and has worked as a photojournalist in the media, never heard of Mumbai Police using it, at the most they carried in the vehicles and used afterwards when it was required.
NEVER on the belt. Just like the Goondas who went around in vehicles and took it out when required.
And for all practical purposes having a belt like that doesn't make sense, it has to be unhooked at will or speed for use
Lenny
P.S
you can always tie it around your waist, but then the cops will also look like goondas

You need to train with it, so that it does not go around you and hit you behind your head!!! (yes, I confess to watching a lot of cartoon movies , and also whacking myself in a tender part with a whip!). But is it legal for cops to use such "unorthodox" weapons?
Cheers!

it is just about putting things together once you have them and perseverance.simple steel hook and a ring on other end simplest unless you have some design already in mind! i am not advocating violence ,better safe than sorry.

Re: Bulet (motorcycle) chain belt
Bikes, Bullets, Belts, Biff.....I guess it is all natural progression - a sort of chain reaction
Seriously - I do not doubt that a chain, any transmission chain can be made into a serviceable belt. A bit of a bumpy constriction if not backed up by a thick. looped leather base/under-skirting though! Might take a bit of getting used to - when wielded as a weapon - as a two dimensional snake!

Re: Bulet (motorcycle) chain belt
any weapon in the world should a combination of the following qualities:
extended reach
control
cause damage.
ideal weapon should have a balance of all 3 for eg. knuckle dusters dont extend reach, plastic sword doesnt cause damage and a mideveal flail has less control.
similarly a cycle chain can be a weapon but lacks control.

You want more gun control? Use both hands!

Re: Bulet (motorcycle) chain belt
I used to keep a bicycle chain (as it is with one end of the loop opened) in my car..but once when i had to use it (on a stray and probably rabid dog!!!); realized the inadequacy - of the chain as a weapon and also of lack of practice!! Managed to scare off the fellow - so alive now!! Now I carry a 750g metal wrench with a fiber grip, about 40cm long..keep it near my seat on the right hand corner..its pretty intimidating! But then for a "professional" thug its probably just a toy...hope I never face one of them!!
