Hollis Shotguns

I hope you can help me figure out what exactly I have. My shotgun is a Hollis and sons, London, side by side, with the words "laminated steel" engraved on the barrel. Alfred Hollis stamped in the breech along side the patent number 509. the numbers 8454 engraved on the trigger guard and the numbers 9018 stamped underneath between the barrels. along with the number 13 stamped underneath on both barrels. I have had no success online trying to find a model or even a match to any of the above de.scriptions. This gun was passed down to me from my grandfather who did not know anymore about it than i do. I am very interested in knowing the history, range of value, and if nothing else, the model number. Thank you for any and all help that you can lend.

You are unlikely to find a model name or number for your Hollis because very few British manufacturers acribed names or numbers to their guns.
There were various English gunmakers named `Hollis` - Isaac Hollis, Chas Hollis, Alfred Hollis and the Hollis, Bentley & Playfair partnership amongst them. I have no idea of the relationhip between them. I have a vague memory that the firm of Alfred Hollis & Sons ceased trading sometime around WWI.
The `13` under each barrel almost certainly refers to the bore. `13` being nominally .710". There should be a full set of proof marks in addition to the `13`s.
`Laminated Steel` refers to a form of simple damascus.

I have one lying back home in Nagaland - Inheritance from Grandfather. Its a SxS 32 inch, external Hammer, model "Paramount" or something. That's about all I know and would be happy about some additional info as well.

The first Hollis was made in about 1720 by Richard and William Hollis and the last about 1945.
The first registered business was 1807-1811 under William Hollis at St Marys Row.
I Hollis (Isaac) was established operations between 1850-1860 and I Hollis & Sons 1861-1900

What is the name on the shotgun "Paramount"? Is it black powder or nitro proof.
I am trying to assemble a list of names they gave the shotguns I have about forty name for the Hollis so far.
Does any one else have any with names and a description.

Hi hollisfreak,

Its mostly illegible now all I can make out for sure is "PARAMOUNT"

Its in my cousins care presently so I'll ask him to photograph it and take a pencil-paper rub of the proofs....and also see if he can figure out which Hollis this is.

Will take some days.

Dear Sirs,

I too have one Isaac Hollis, SxS DBBL, external hammers shotgun at home. It belonged to my Grandfather. The model name is "Eclipse". Any idea when it was manufactured.

Inside of the barrel still shines like mirror.
